Chapter 28: Go Home Together
As if sensing her emotions, Jack gently patted Ainsley on the shoulder. “It’s good that you’re back. It’s good that you’re back.”
Ainsley looked up and met Jack’s encouraging gaze, feeling a touch of emotion.
Jack withdrew his hand and looked at the excited crowd, including a stunned Kaitlin. He smiled and addressed everyone. “Ainsley is indeed my student. The Psychology Department allowed her to take an extended leave because we didn’t want to lose such a brilliant talent. During her time here, she earned all her credits in record time and gained valuable hands-on experience by working with the police, mental health facilities, and counseling centers. She was just one step away from graduation. A talent like hers is more than qualified to be a psychology teacher.”
There was an unmistakable pride in Jack’s voice as he spoke about Ainsley’s accomplishments.
The crowd began to murmur in awe, with many now clearly impressed by Ainsley’s achievements.
Jack then turned his attention to Kaitlin, his expression turning serious.
“I’ve heard about some unfortunate comments on the forum recently. As students, it’s important to focus on your studies and not let jealousy cloud your judgment. The university will take action against anyone who crosses the line. I hope this serves as a reminder for everyone to act respectfully.”
Jack then gave Ainsley a reassuring glance before turning to leave.
All eyes now turned to Kaitlin, who had already admitted in the cafeteria that she was the one who had posted the defamatory remarks.
Kaitlin, now realizing that Ainsley was the legendary student she had belittled, flushed red with embarrassment and anxiety. The weight of Jack’s words struck her hard, and feeling the pressure of the crowd’s gaze, she quickly left.
After the commotion settled, students gathered around Ainsley, eager to ask her questions. Ainsley smiled politely but didn’t say much, instead leaving with Serina.
Serina, her arm linked with Ainsley’s, couldn’t hide her excitement. “Ainsley, you’re incredible! It turns out you’re the legend of our school! Even the deputy dean came to your defense and put Kaitlin in her place!”
Ainsley smiled gently, shaking her head. “Don’t exaggerate. Jack’s just being supportive. He’s always been kind.”
“I think the professors admire you for your dedication,” Serina continued, her voice filled with admiration. “They’re proud to have you back.”
Ainsley sighed softly. Although she had given up her dreams for love in the past, the professors had welcomed her back with open arms. It was their kindness and belief in her that made Jack stand up for her.
Serina paused, looking at Ainsley with sincerity. “Ainsley, that’s because you’re an amazing person. We all care about you, and we’re happy to support you.”
Ainsley’s heart warmed as she met Serina’s gaze, offering her a soft smile.
After leaving the cafeteria, Ainsley returned to the psychological counseling center. Not long after, the university issued a formal punishment for Kaitlin and her accomplice, and the offending posts on the forum were deleted. A new post appeared in the Department of Psychology section, filled with admiration for the “legendary student,” now referred to as Ms. Easton.
By 4 p.m., when Serina finished her classes, Ainsley was wrapping up her work. Serina came to wait for her, eager to head home together.
Not wanting to keep Serina waiting, Ainsley packed up and left with her. As they walked, Serina leaned in and whispered, her eyes sparkling, “Ainsley, my brother said he’s coming to pick us up for dinner.”
Manuel? Ainsley raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
