Chapter 29: She Is Secretly Photographed
Ainsley paused.
When Ainsley thought of Manuel’s composed yet intense demeanor, her heart skipped a beat. She bit her lip, about to politely refuse, when she noticed Serina waving happily at someone nearby.
“Manuel!” Serina called out.
Ainsley glanced up to see a man walking toward them. His neat, tailored suit gave him a polished look, but his eyes still held that mysterious, unreadable quality.
Ainsley felt an odd chill as she walked toward him under his intense gaze.
“Mr. Gage, what a coincidence,” Ainsley greeted him, forcing a smile.
Manuel’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smile. “I don’t think so,” he replied softly.
At that moment, Kaitlin stormed out of the school office, gripping her punishment order tightly in her hands. Her frustration was evident as she swiped angrily through posts on the forum. The anger bubbling inside her only deepened when she saw the acknowledgment of Ainsley’s true identity.
She couldn’t believe it—Ainsley was the legendary figure in the Psychology Department. All this time, Ainsley had kept that hidden from everyone!
Kaitlin’s bitterness grew. She thought, Ever since Ainsley married my brother, she’s been causing trouble for the Baldry family. She occupies our house, and now I’m being punished because of her!
She used to be so obedient, but now she had become a completely different person.
No! I need to tell my brother everything about what Ainsley’s done to me!
Fuming, Kaitlin’s gaze shifted to Ainsley, who was now standing with a man she didn’t recognize. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and her fury grew.
So she’s already moved on? Kaitlin seethed. She’s with a new man already?
The man was out of Kaitlin’s direct line of sight, but she could tell he was fit and well-dressed. He looked somewhat familiar, but she couldn’t place him.
Not wasting any time, Kaitlin pulled out her phone, quickly snapping several pictures of Ainsley and the man from a distance. Satisfied with the photos, she smirked to herself.
You’ll pay for this, Ainsley. I’ll show these to my brother and destroy your reputation. You’ll regret messing with me.
Ainsley, on the other hand, wasn’t eager to engage with Manuel. She planned to make an excuse and slip away, but Serina held her arm tightly, a pout on her face.
“Ainsley, remember we agreed to have dinner together. You can’t leave now,” Serina said with a pleading look.
Ainsley glanced down at Serina’s eyes, which were filled with sincerity. She gave a small nod. “Alright, I’ll stay.”
As she looked up, she met Manuel’s playful gaze. For some reason, her heart raced inexplicably.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that she had walked right into a carefully set trap, one involving both Serina and Manuel.
“Let’s go,” Manuel said, his voice smooth as he gestured toward the car.
The sleek black Cayenne rolled to a stop beside them, and the driver pressed the lock button as they approached. Before Ainsley could react, Serina had already slipped into the passenger seat. She poked her head out the window with a grin. “Ainsley, I get motion sickness, so I’ll sit in the front. You and my brother can sit in the back.”
Manuel, ever the gentleman, opened the back door for Ainsley. “Ms. Easton, please,” he said with a raised eyebrow, his voice warm and inviting. “After you.”
Ainsley couldn’t bring herself to refuse, so she climbed into the car and settled into the back seat.
The back of the Cayenne was spacious, but Manuel’s tall frame made the space feel a bit more confined once he sat next to her. The faint scent of his cologne lingered in the air, and Ainsley couldn’t help but notice it as the door closed behind them.
