Chapter 17: Ainsley Gets the House Back
Cason’s reaction to his friends’ words sent a chill through the group. His anger had been palpable, but the mention of Ainsley doing something for him caught him off guard. One of the men in the group hesitated, his voice growing nervous.
“Not long after Kaliyah left, Cason, didn’t you become depressed? The higher-ups at the company were all complaining about you until several projects came up. I heard from my father that Ainsley, as your wife, actually secured those projects for you. She was afraid you wouldn’t accept them, so she never mentioned it.”
The room fell silent. Everyone knew that Ainsley wasn’t highly educated, and using the identity of “Mrs. Baldry,” which Cason despised, made it even harder for her to show her true worth. Yet, she had done all this quietly, behind the scenes. Even when she secured these projects for Cason, she kept her involvement hidden, afraid of his reaction.
Cason sat motionless, his mind reeling with the revelation. He hadn’t known about any of this until three years later. The realization hit him harder than he expected. Today, looking at Ainsley’s cold expression in the local court, his heart throbbed painfully, as if the truth was only now sinking in.
Later that night, Cason arrived home to find Kaliyah and Lindsay sitting together on the sofa, happily chatting. The atmosphere was so warm and comfortable that it almost felt like a new family had already been formed.
Lindsay greeted him with a smile. “Cason, come here! I’m discussing the wedding with Kaliyah. She says traditional weddings are becoming really popular…”
Cason’s mind was already elsewhere. He raised a hand, cutting her off. “Mom, please. I need to speak to Kaliyah.”
Lindsay hesitated but smiled and stood up. “Alright, I won’t disturb you two.” She left the room, heading upstairs.
As Cason sat down, the housekeeper poured him a cup of tea before quietly exiting. The smell of alcohol still clung to him from the bar, and the silence in the room felt heavier than usual.
Cason took a sip of tea before speaking, his voice soft but serious. “Kaliyah, how about I buy your parents a house?”
Kaliyah blinked, surprised by the offer. She sat beside him, her demeanor soft and a little embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Cason. I didn’t realize the house belonged to Ms. Easton. It caused a misunderstanding. Lindsay and my parents… they’re upset about it. If they move out now, they’ll think badly of you. I don’t want that.”
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, and Cason couldn’t help but pull her into his arms. His voice softened, “What about a few days later? Ainsley won’t mind.”
Kaliyah nodded, though her eyes flickered with something unreadable. She smiled, but there was a depth of calculation in her gaze that Cason didn’t notice.
Meanwhile, Ainsley had made her decision. She met with Roman again, and after a brief discussion, they agreed on the price for the apartment. It was upstairs from Serina’s place, and the space was beautifully decorated—ready for her to move in with minimal effort.
After finalizing everything, Ainsley moved into her new home. She felt a strange sense of freedom settling in. It was her space now, entirely her own. She quickly applied for a job nearby and tried to focus on the fresh start in front of her.
The following day, she received a call from the notary office. It was official: all the real estate properties that Cason had given her were now under her name. The paperwork had been processed, and everything was legally binding.
Ainsley felt a sense of closure as she hung up the phone. She immediately called the security department of the villa.
After a few minutes, the security guards arrived at the villa and knocked on the door.
Becky, Kaliyah’s mother, answered, clearly confused and frustrated. “What’s going on? Why are you here?”
One of the security guards spoke curtly, “Sorry, but this is the owner’s decision. You need to leave. If you refuse, we will call the police.”
Becky’s face turned pale as she tried to protest, but the guards stood firm, ready to enforce the order. The sense of power and control that Ainsley had once felt helpless against now belonged to her. She had her life back, and no one could take that away.
As the security guards escorted Kaliyah’s parents from the house, Ainsley watched from a distance. She didn’t need to see it all unfold—she knew what was happening. The house that Cason had once promised her was now hers, and there was no turning back.
But even with the property now in her hands, Ainsley couldn’t shake the feeling of emptiness. She had worked so hard, done so much for Cason, and yet, he was still with Kaliyah. She had always hoped that he would come to appreciate her sacrifices, but that hope seemed increasingly distant.
For now, she focused on the future, one step at a time. There was no looking back—only moving forward.
