Chapter 42 They Meet in the Club
It was not very far from the University of Washington to Ainsley’s home, but for the first time, Ainsley
felt a little tired on the way back After returning home, Ainsley did not even have the mood to make
dinner. She just took out a bottle of beet from the refrigerator and nestled herself into the sofa.
She was a little agitated.
But she could not tell why.
She knew very well that she no longer loved Cason. Actually, she hated Cason now.
However, ever since Cason deliberately disgusted Ainsley after they got divorced, Ainsley could not
help but feel irritated and even nauseous.
She could not believe that she fell for such a man before.
The alcohol went down her throat to her stomach, and it slowly dissipated the irritation in Ainsley’s
heart.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
Ainsley moved her fingers slightly and pressed the answer button.
“Aisy, come out quickly. There is a new club in Seattle. I heard it’s super awesome!”
Ainsley thought for a moment and said, “Text me the location.”
After getting out of the taxi, Ainsley stood in the cold wind and looked up at the club’s neon sign.
She couldn’t understand the French on the sign, but she liked the decoration.
“Aisy!” Lainey shouted toward Ainsley.
Ainsley narrowed her eyes and saw Lainey trotting over, and then Lainey gave Ainsley a big hug.
After Lainey kissed Ainsley’s cheek, Lainey saw Ainsley’s clothes and immediately looked disturbed.
“Aisy, why did you wear this to come to the club?”
Ainsley wore a white T-shirt, light-colored jeans, and a pair of white canvas shoes. She didn’t look like
someone who would come to a club.
Lainey looked worried. “Ah, that ***Cason. If I meet him one day, I will definitely beat him up. He
completely changed you. You used to be so cool.”
Ainsley poked Lainey’s forehead. “What nonsense are you talking about? I’m just too tired after working
for a whole day. I really don’t want to change my clothes.”
Seeing that Ainsley was a little upset, Lainey stuck out her tongue and smiled. Lainey grabbed
Ainsley’s arm and walked into the club. “Alright, I was just joking. I have already taken a booth for us.
Let’s go.”
They each ordered a specially made ***. Lainey saw that Ainsley had been a little disinterested. They
were good friends for many years. Lainey knew there must be something on Ainsley’s mind, but
Ainsley was unwilling to say it. So Lainey did not ask. They comfortably nestled in the booth, casually
talking about some interesting things they had encountered recently.
They did not know that a few men in the next booth were looking at them.
Lainey’s face was small and pretty. Her thick hair was scattered down her shoulders. The camisole and
shorts that she wore showed her good figure.

Ainsley, who was sitting opposite Lainey, was even more beautiful. Even though Ainsley’s clothes. were
very simple, Ainsley was still very attractive to others.
“Hey, ladies. Fancy a drink?”
Ainsley and Lainey were chatting about gossip when a strange male voice suddenly sounded, making
them a little disgusted.
Ainsley raised her head. A man with a fat face and his two followers with tattoos had appeared. before
Ainsley and Lainey’s table. Those men had fierce expressions on their faces.
Ainsley furrowed her brows and looked at them coldly. “I’m not interested.”
Her tone was very cold, which showed there was no room for discussion.
Lainey looked at those men with ridicule. It was unlucky for them to tease Ainsley.
Before Ainsley married Cason, she was famous for beating up a bunch of hooligans.
The commotion here attracted a lot of people. No one noticed that at this time, two handsome men
appeared at the entrance of the club..
Roman stepped into the club and immediately saw Ainsley and Lainey. He looked at the man beside
him. “Manuel, isn’t that your crush, Ainsley?”
When Ainsley stepped out of the cab, the chill of the night air hit her, but she barely felt it. Her eyes wandered up to the neon sign of the club. The French on it was lost on her, but the style of the place appealed to her instantly. It looked vibrant, mysterious, and a little out of place.
“Aisy!” Lainey’s voice cut through the noise of the crowd.
Ainsley squinted into the distance and spotted her friend. Lainey was making her way toward her, trotting in those ridiculous heels of hers, before she threw her arms around Ainsley in a big hug.
Lainey kissed Ainsley’s cheek with an exaggerated peck before pulling back, scanning Ainsley’s outfit with a raised brow. “Aisy, why on earth are you wearing this to a club?”
Ainsley was dressed simply—just a white T-shirt, light jeans, and white canvas sneakers. Not exactly “club attire.”
Lainey’s expression shifted to concern. “Ah, Cason! If I ever meet him, I swear, I’ll beat him up. He’s completely ruined you. You used to be so carefree and cool.”
Ainsley gave her a playful poke in the forehead. “Stop making a big deal out of it. I’m just exhausted. I didn’t feel like changing.”
Lainey’s eyes softened when she saw the faint hint of frustration on Ainsley’s face. She smiled sheepishly and grabbed Ainsley’s arm, tugging her toward the entrance. “Alright, alright. Let’s just have some fun. I’ve already gotten us a booth. Come on!”
Inside, the club was buzzing with energy. Music thumped, lights flashed, and the scent of perfumes, sweat, and excitement filled the air. Lainey ordered a couple of specialty cocktails, but Ainsley wasn’t really paying attention. Her mind kept wandering back to Cason, to the messy history they shared. But Lainey, ever perceptive, noticed her friend’s distraction.
“So,” Lainey said, her voice low but teasing. “What’s really bothering you, Aisy? Come on, spill.”
Ainsley smiled faintly, knowing Lainey wouldn’t let this go. But she was tired—tired of talking about it, tired of thinking about it. She just shrugged, trying to keep the conversation light. “Nothing, really. Just… life, you know? Work’s been busy.”
Lainey gave her a knowing look but didn’t press. Instead, they spent the next few hours just chatting about random things, laughing about old memories, and gossiping about mutual acquaintances. It was a good distraction, one that Ainsley needed.
However, the momentary peace was interrupted when a voice broke through the noise.
“Hey, ladies. Fancy a drink?”
Ainsley and Lainey turned toward the voice. Three men stood by their booth—one with a pudgy face and two with tattoos that seemed a little too much for a night out. The men were eyeing them with an unsettling intensity.
Ainsley’s gaze turned cold. She didn’t even need to speak before the edge in her voice made it clear. “I’m not interested.”
Her tone was firm, her expression sharp—no room for negotiation.
Lainey looked at them with an air of superiority. It wasn’t just that she found them obnoxious. She knew Ainsley could handle herself. In fact, before her marriage to Cason, Ainsley had been notorious for dispatching annoying men like these with ease.
The group of men hesitated, clearly not used to rejection. But before things could escalate, a new presence entered the scene.
At the club’s entrance, two figures stood out immediately. Tall, confident, and unmistakably handsome, they seemed to draw the attention of everyone around them. Roman, with his usual charm, was the first to speak.
“Manuel, isn’t that your crush?” he asked, his voice light but amused, nodding toward Ainsley.
Manuel’s gaze shifted to Ainsley, his eyes narrowing slightly, a mix of curiosity and something else flickering in them. It was clear from the way he looked at her that he wasn’t indifferent—he had been keeping an eye on her since that night at the university.
Ainsley was caught in an unfamiliar tide of emotions as her eyes met his.
