Chapter 52: The Yarwood Banquet Starts
The venue for the banquet was not where Wynter had expected. Instead of the Caesar Hotel in the city center, the event was being held at the Westland’s villa.
Wynter, dressed in a simple yet elegant outfit, wasn’t driving her usual BMW Tomahawk. She had packed her first aid kit and invitation card before hopping into a taxi, her mind still swirling with thoughts. The invitation card felt… different this time.
As she settled into the backseat, she couldn’t shake the odd sensation that something was off. The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror, clearly surprised by her destination.
“Ordinary people don’t usually go to the Caesar Hotel in Westland. I heard all the big shots are gathering there today. Are you…?” The driver trailed off, clearly curious.
Wynter smiled faintly. “I’m just going to socialize.”
The driver chuckled, as if his suspicions had been confirmed. “As I thought. How could someone as young as you be in the business of treating patients?”
Wynter merely smiled, not giving away anything. Her thoughts were too deep to be distracted by such small talk.
The Caesar Hotel had always been divided into tiers. The one in the Southdale city center was open to the public, but the one in Westland, known as Rose Manor, was reserved for those in the highest circles. Golf, shooting, horseback riding, and other elite sports were held here on its vast grounds, nestled deep in the forest. Only those with an invitation could enter the private club, where top-tier services were provided to the privileged few.
When they arrived, Wynter stepped out of the taxi, adjusting her bag. She could already sense the weight of the event in the air. The exclusive nature of the event was palpable, and she was certain her presence here would turn more than a few heads.
Inside, the atmosphere was a mix of tension and excitement. The banquet hall was filled with the most prestigious families in the region—the Gibsons, the Lopezes, the Youngs, and the Shepherds—each bringing their juniors or apprentices along. These families were the pillars of the medical world, and their presence carried a great deal of weight.
However, some of the guests, those without such illustrious backgrounds, hung back awkwardly, trying to fit in while engaging in quiet, low murmurs. Among them was Wanda, who entered the antehall with Yvette and Hilda, her eyes wide as she took in the opulence around her.
“Wow, it’s so beautiful and luxurious!” Wanda exclaimed, her voice dripping with awe.
Hilda, looking like a seasoned attendee despite this being her first visit, gave a tight-lipped smile. “It’s nothing special.”
“Thanks to you, Yve and I get to come here,” Wanda added, turning her attention to Hilda.
Hilda gave a small, curt nod. “Don’t make a scene when we get inside. Remember, there are important people here. We need to blend in.”
Wanda nodded vigorously, keeping her voice down as she murmured, “I understand.”
Though the Yates family was wealthy, they knew they were nowhere near the level of influence of those in the main hall. The nobles and elites here carried a different aura, one that demanded respect and caution. Yvette stood quietly by, her eyes scanning the room, her heartbeat racing as she anxiously waited for the moment she could meet the mysterious Mr. Yarwood.
The wait seemed endless, and whispers began circulating among the guests.
“Why haven’t the Yarwoods shown up yet?” one person asked.
“Maybe they’re waiting for someone important?” another speculated.
Luke, from the Gibson family, sneered. “Who could be so important that the Yarwoods would keep everyone waiting?”
He was clearly dismissing the notion, assuming that these people lacked the knowledge or status to understand the full weight of the Yarwood family’s power.
Meanwhile, Theo Yarwood, the patriarch of the Yarwood family, sat in his study at the manor, dressed in an elegant vintage suit. His fingers idly flipped a coin, his white hair falling slightly over his intense, thoughtful eyes.
“Grandpa, it’s getting late,” Lydia Yarwood, his eldest granddaughter, reminded him gently. “Our guests are waiting.”
Theo glanced up from his coin, taking a sip of his tea. “Why the rush? We still have guests to arrive.”
Lydia raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. “Are you waiting for Dr. Miracle?”
Theo’s expression softened for a moment, but he quickly shook his head. “No.”
Lydia wanted to press further but stopped herself when she saw her grandfather put on an external headset and gaze out at the guests in the hall with a strange interest.
Though Lydia had a suspicion, she couldn’t quite figure out who could command his attention like this.
In truth, Theo was more concerned with Dr. Genius, someone Ethan had mentioned in passing. According to Ethan, Dr. Genius had helped his grandson improve his appetite, and the mention of such extraordinary medical skills had sparked Theo’s interest. If it weren’t for Dalton’s interruption, he would have already sent someone to investigate the doctor. Instead, he had resorted to watching from afar.
Fortunately, this medical seminar provided the perfect opportunity to meet the elusive Dr. Genius in person. He was certain that the banquet would bring the doctor to him—he just had to wait.
The event was about to begin.
