Chapter 17: Ryan Recognized Wynter
However, Hilda held back. Her shrewdness made it unlikely that she would reveal the Gibson family’s imminent collapse to everyone in the room. What she needed to do now was to stabilize these lesser-known families, ensuring they didn’t turn against her.
“You’re correct,” Hilda said with a calm nod. “The Gibson family’s reputation in the medical field has been established for years. However, on such a celebratory occasion, it seems unfortunate that this has occurred.”
Ewan, being in business, found such matters somewhat mysterious, though he kept quiet.
Wanda, on the other hand, feared that Yvette’s apprenticeship might fall through, so she hurried to praise Hilda. “Absolutely! Madam Gibson has won awards even abroad. Back in the country, she treats everyone like royalty!”
Hilda didn’t mention that the award she had won abroad was for a targeted drug analysis, a prize that had been provided by the Heavenly Medical Guild.
Instead, she sighed. “Wanda, be discreet. The Gibson family, despite its strength, also has its shortcomings. For example, when treating Mr. Yarwood, we lacked a vital medicinal herb—the Zenith herb. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have had to rely on other families for assistance.”
“Zenith herb?” Yvette casually mentioned. “Dad, I remember Grandma has a lot of medicinal herbs, and there’s also a medical book.”
Upon hearing Yvette speak with such knowledge, Hilda was surprised and turned to Ewan. “Ewan, does the Yates family have those herbs?”
Ewan looked embarrassed. “Those are just old junk. Nothing valuable.”
“Not valuable? Does a poor old lady cherish worthless things so much?” Wanda sneered.
Ewan quickly pulled her aside, signaling that she should be mindful of the occasion.
However, Hilda’s eyes lit up. “Forget it. The Gibson family doesn’t covet others’ treasures. It’s just that this invitation to treat the Yarwood family may be lacking…”
As soon as Wanda heard the mention of the Yarwood family, she immediately interjected, “Madam Gibson, now that you’re Yvette’s master, we’re family. We’ll definitely send the Zenith herb and the medical book. Right, Ewan?”
Ewan, at this point, had made up his mind. “Exactly. I’ll send someone to my mom’s place tonight.”
“That would be perfect.” Hilda smiled broadly. “In a week, when I visit the Yarwood family for medical consultation, Yvette will accompany me. She’s so pretty—who knows, she might catch Mr. Yarwood’s attention…”
Caught Mr. Yarwood’s attention?
Upon hearing this, Ewan lost all rationality. All he could think about was getting Margaret’s Zenith herb as soon as possible—regardless of whether she was his biological mother or not.
Wanda, even more excited, patted Yvette’s hand. “If what Madam Gibson says comes true, you’ll be blessed for the rest of your life. That’s Mr. Yarwood!”
“Mom…” Yvette blushed shyly. “When I’m with Madam Gibson for medical consultation, I’ll behave well.”
Mr. Yarwood, the head of one of Sorzada City’s aristocratic families, was incredibly wealthy. Who wouldn’t want to marry into such a family? The Yates family was clearly dreaming big.
But Hilda, always eager for personal gain, was clearly playing with their hopes. She had no intention of actually pursuing such a relationship—it was all just for the Yates family’s Zenith herb.
At sunset, in the community square, Wynter was fully immersed in her medical consultations. She had no idea that someone was eyeing Margaret’s traditional herb.
After finishing with a patient, she gave Gavin a few more instructions before he left.
“Make sure to watch your salt intake. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables when you get home. If anyone tries to persuade you to undergo surgery again, don’t listen.”
“Can I go home now?” Gavin asked uncertainly. “Do I need to take several courses of medication?”
Wynter replied professionally, “No need. The air in the countryside is good for recovery.”
After the hustle and bustle, Gavin breathed a sigh of relief, tears welling in his eyes as he left.
Wynter was about to pack away her acupuncture needles when Ryan, who had been observing from a distance, hurriedly stopped her.
