Chapter 86: Does Mr. Yarwood Admit His Identity
It was Dom from Harmony Community, his face flushed and sweaty as he approached the clinic. As soon as he spotted Wynter, his expression brightened.
“Dr. Genius, I’ve finally found you!” he said, almost breathlessly. “Mr. Munn Senior and the others have been asking where you’ve been. Why didn’t you go to the community square yesterday?”
The mention of Mr. Munn and the others—retired cadres with influential pasts—immediately put Dom in a more nervous state. He couldn’t afford to offend them, let alone ignore their requests.
Wynter handed him a piece of paper. “I’ll be staying at my grandma’s place for a while. I’m helping her open the clinic, so I won’t be going to the community square.”
Dom’s face grew even more anxious. “But you know about Mr. Munn Senior’s condition and Mrs. Wheatly Senior’s heart…” He trailed off, unwilling to speak of the sensitive matters in front of others. His discomfort was palpable.
Wynter smiled reassuringly. “I meant to inform them myself, but since you’re here, please pass along my message. If anyone feels unwell, they’re welcome to come for treatment.”
Dom immediately felt a weight lift from his shoulders. Without that last sentence, he wasn’t sure how to handle the demands from the community cadres. They had long wanted to show their gratitude to Dr. Genius, who had once treated them all without charge.
The elderly cadres had tried to help Wynter in various ways. They had wanted to send her to another school, but she had refused. They had offered to find her a job in the hospital, but she had claimed to be too lazy to wake up early. Now, at last, they could repay her kindness in a way that would make them feel better.
Grateful for her understanding, Dom looked at her with sincere appreciation. “Dr. Genius, can I borrow you for a moment?”
Wynter raised an eyebrow, following him aside.
He leaned in slightly, speaking in a hushed tone. “You said if someone from Havenlight County comes looking for you again, it could be your parents. Someone recently called the community, saying they’ll come to see you next month.”
She chuckled softly. “Thank you. If they come, please contact me.”
“Of course!” Dom nodded, getting back on his scooter. “I’ll go give them a reply now!”
Wynter offered a polite smile. “Be careful on the road.”
Dom nodded enthusiastically, then sped off, not slowing down despite the bumpy path.
Dalton had been standing in the courtyard, silently observing the interaction. Normally, he wouldn’t have cared about such trivial matters, but seeing it happen to her, he found himself asking, “Are you short on business?”
“Nope,” Wynter replied casually. “But opening a clinic requires a reputation.”
She looked toward the back room. “The medical skills passed down by the seniors shouldn’t be forgotten.”
Ethan, overhearing, took it as a chance to be supportive. “Dr. Genius, I support you!”
Dalton glanced at him, his expression unchanging but his gaze sharp.
Ethan, sensing Dalton’s slight annoyance, immediately stopped talking and scrambled to find something to do, like helping Wolf carry a barrel.
Wolf, not needing assistance, gestured with a shrug. “I don’t need you. I’m practicing.”
Ethan, not understanding sign language, misunderstood the gesture and responded with a bright, naive smile. “You’re welcome.”
Wolf raised an eyebrow, confused. When did I say thank you?
Despite his confusion, Wolf refrained from saying anything. After all, Ethan had given him money, and he didn’t want to cause trouble.
Dalton continued watching the scene with mild disinterest but still asked, his voice calm, “Wasn’t yesterday the best opportunity to gain popularity?”
Wynter smiled knowingly, turning her attention back to him. “Speaking of yesterday, I almost forgot to thank you. It was you who gave me the real invitation card, right? Did the Yarwoods give that to you?”
