Chapter 91: Does Mr. Yarwood Like Wynter?
Dalton stepped back with a smile. “Alright.”
The two of them shared an easy, natural camaraderie, like old friends who were perfectly at ease with each other.
But Ethan couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. The atmosphere was hard to describe—strangely charged in a way he hadn’t expected. He’d never seen Dalton behave like this with anyone before, almost as if he were intentionally trying to attract Wynter’s attention.
It was a rare sight—Mr. Yarwood, usually so composed, acting so… engaged. Ethan sat quietly under the Black Locust tree, trying to process what he was witnessing. He chuckled to himself, but the thought came unbidden: could it be that Dalton had a crush on Dr. Genius?
He quickly dismissed the thought, not daring to dwell on it. Keeping his head down, he focused on something else.
Meanwhile, Margaret had already begun boiling water, ready to prepare the herbal medicine. She was thrilled that Wynter’s friends were staying for a meal and made a list of what to buy before happily heading out with Susan—and of course, Wolf came along too.
Wynter adjusted the temperature in the mugwort room before suggesting that Dalton lie down. She had some things to check on the internet, so she let him rest while she worked.
Soon after, Margaret and Susan returned from their shopping trip. As they entered the yard, Susan looked around, her eyes wide. “Wynter, I think our place is going to be demolished!”
Wynter chuckled, amused. “Where did you hear that?”
Susan leaned in, speaking in a hushed tone. “I saw a luxury car parked right next to the market, outside the alley. I asked Wolf about it, and he said it’s worth more than six million.”
Wynter glanced over at Wolf, who was carrying a vegetable basket. He merely gestured in response.
Wynter raised an eyebrow, a frown crossing her face. “Maybeck?”
Wolf nodded in confirmation.
Wynter realized then that the Yarwoods had arrived, though she hadn’t expected them to come so soon. But it didn’t matter—she was a doctor, after all. She couldn’t turn away a patient, no matter who they were.
Susan looked at her with suspicion. “Wynter, do you know him?”
Wynter’s response was casual. “I know the car brand.”
Susan laughed. “I thought this was your grandma’s patient. If she could treat a patient like that, her life would be so much easier.”
Wynter didn’t feel the need to elaborate.
Just then, there was a commotion outside.
“Wow, whose car is this?”
“Rolls-Royce? Is he here to find the Yates?”
Hearing this, Susan turned, looking out the door in surprise. Sure enough, a large, black luxury car had just parked. It looked expensive, radiating an air of wealth and power.
“Wynter, this…” Susan was confused, her mind racing. There had never been a car like that in their alley before. The last time something like this happened, it hadn’t gone well.
“Is he here to cause trouble for your grandma? I can help block him.”
Wynter shook her head calmly. “No, Aunt Susan. He’s a patient who came to see me.”
“Patient?” Susan blinked, still confused. “Coming to you?”
Wasn’t it just a few days ago that Margaret mentioned how Wynter didn’t know much about medicine?
Wynter only smiled, not explaining further. The situation seemed to be one big mystery for Susan.
However, before the conversation could continue, there was a knock at the door.
Ryan had arrived, looking worried. When he saw Wynter, his expression shifted, and his voice trembled with urgency. “Wynter, are you free now?”
Wynter took a moment to assess. “Yes, but you’ll need to wait a moment.”
Ryan nodded immediately. “Of course!”
Wynter quickly entered the room, grabbing her black bag. She turned to Wolf, who was still near the mugwort room. “Don’t charge the patient in there, Wolf. Don’t let him scan the code either. Go make tonight’s dinner instead.”
Wolf seemed reluctant but obeyed without question.
Wynter reached out to pat his head gently. “Make sure he stays here. He’s in a special situation.”
Wolf nodded, his expression serious.
Wynter, still a little concerned, left a note for Dalton before she left. Something was clearly going on with that special patient, and it had Ryan anxious. She couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to make him so worried.
