Chapter 51 Ridiculed And Humiliated
After hearing her words, Jonathan felt as though his dignity had been compromised. He quickly finished his bath and changed into his clothes, then retreated to his room to rest.
Meanwhile, at the Rainsworth residence, Nathaniel learned from his bodyguard that Cecilia had returned to Ninth Ville after dining at the restaurant. His mind seemed to be elsewhere, a fact that both Stella and Elena could easily notice.
“Stella, since you’ve gone to the trouble of coming today, why not stay the night?” Elena suggested. “Mr. Rainsworth will be back tomorrow, and he mentioned he’d like to see you.”
Wren was known for his womanizing ways, even in his middle age, always leaving a trail of romantic entanglements. He rarely returned home, which only made his request to see Stella seem odd. Stella, feeling a little shy, nodded in agreement. “All right.”
However, Nathaniel showed no interest in their conversation. He casually ate a little, then pushed his chair back and stood up to leave the dining table.
“Where are you going, Nathaniel?” Elena asked, puzzled by his sudden departure.
“Home,” he replied.
Taken aback, Elena realized he meant Daltonia Villa—the place where he and Cecilia had lived together during their marriage. Was it even his home anymore?
“Stay here today,” Elena insisted. “Your father will be back tomorrow. It would be good to discuss your marriage with Stella together.”
Marriage? A flicker of frost passed through Nathaniel’s eyes. “I’m not even divorced yet, so where is this talk of marriage coming from?”
Elena felt a pang of emotion, but Stella’s expression remained unchanged, though her grip on her fork tightened slightly. She quickly followed Nathaniel before he could exit the door.
“Nathaniel!” she called.
Nathaniel paused, and Stella stepped forward, her voice soft and tender. “Nathaniel, did I do something wrong? Why won’t you accept me, even now? I’ve waited for you for eight years, ever since Cecilia married you.”
Tears welled up in Stella’s eyes. “I was afraid I wasn’t good enough for you. So, I worked hard, climbed my way up to where I am now, and only then did I dare to approach you again.”
She reached out, attempting to embrace him, but Nathaniel skillfully avoided her touch.
Frozen in place, Stella could only hear Nathaniel’s cold voice. “Over these past few years, was there anything you asked for that I didn’t provide? In life, one must learn to be content.”
Without another word, Nathaniel got into his car and drove off, leaving Stella standing alone in the cold wind. Elena stepped outside, her gaze sharp as she turned to Stella, offering no sympathy. “Four years ago, you came to me with a health report in hand, promising that within a year, you could give birth to the eldest grandchild of the Rainsworth family. Only then did I agree to let an actress like you get close to Nathaniel. Now, four years have passed, and not only are there no children, but my son doesn’t even want to touch you. Looking back now, you’re worse than a deaf person. At least the deaf person was married to my son!”
After Nathaniel had left, Elena continued her sarcastic remarks without giving Stella a second glance. She didn’t even bother to ask her to stay any longer. Alone outside, Stella had no choice but to call her agent to pick her up.
On her way out, as she passed by the Golden Moon Hotel, she couldn’t help but glance toward it a couple of times.
“Stella, what’s wrong?” her manager asked, noticing her distracted look.
Stella clenched her fists, recalling the humiliations she had suffered at the Rainsworth residence. “Spread the word that I returned to the Rainsworth residence with Nathaniel today,” she instructed, a plan forming in her mind.
Meanwhile, at Vivian’s private mansion, Jonathan, claiming to be tired, had retreated to his room. As soon as he shut the door, he turned on his computer. His small hands moved quickly over the keyboard, pulling up a wealth of information about Nathaniel.
