Chapter 77: He Never Liked Her
Stella had never imagined that, after spending four years working to become a singer and another four years to establish herself as an A-list celebrity, it would only take one song and a single day to launch her to stardom.
As her assistant brought in endorsement offers from several renowned international brands, Stella could hardly contain her excitement. Just one endorsement deal from these high-end brands was a feat other celebrities spent decades working towards.
Her joy, however, was short-lived. Her assistant quickly returned with bad news.
“Stella, we’ve received a message from Ms. Cecille’s company. They’re accusing us of plagiarism and demanding we take the song down, issue an apology, and compensate them.”
Stella’s frown deepened. She hadn’t expected to be caught so quickly. After all, the song had originated overseas. If it was plagiarized, so be it—few would engage in an international lawsuit over something like this, given how time-consuming and draining they could be.
“What plagiarism? Tell them to show their proof before throwing accusations around,” she scoffed, dismissing the matter.
With the power of the Rainsworth family behind her, Stella was confident that no small foreign composition company would dare to challenge her. Even if they did, she was certain they would lose.
Cecilia, however, was well aware that Stella would never admit to plagiarism. The reason she had instructed her assistant to inform Central Media wasn’t just to inform the press but to publicly document that she had warned them the moment Stella released the song.
It was a Friday afternoon when Cecilia left for the headquarters to attend to work, planning to meet Jonathan later in the evening and spend the weekend with him.
Meanwhile, at the preschool, it was break time. Felix, the eldest grandson of the Rainsworth family, had warmed up to Jonathan during their last interaction. Now, no matter what Jonathan asked, Felix would respond openly.
Fiddling with an eraser, Felix replied with confidence, “Of course! My mom always tells me I’m the heir to the Rainsworth family. Everything they have will be mine one day.”
Jonathan raised an eyebrow, skeptical. “But I heard that the head of the Rainsworth family right now is your Uncle Nathaniel?”
Felix’s face tightened, his voice dropping. “My uncle doesn’t have a son. Mom said he has some… issues that prevent him from having children.”
He glanced around, then whispered, “Once my uncle passes away, his inheritance will be mine.”
Jonathan appeared deep in thought. I wonder what that scumbag dad of mine would say if he heard this…
Felix noticed the shift in Jonathan’s demeanor. “Jonathan, as long as you’re with me, you’ll live comfortably. I promise.”
Jonathan wasn’t particularly impressed. He played along, pretending to dismiss it. “Yeah, everyone brags about their future inheritance. The Rainsworth family has so much. I don’t buy that it’s all going to you. Your uncle Nathaniel is still young. He’ll probably have kids of his own someday. I even saw on the news that he’s marrying some female celebrity. Once they’re married, she’ll probably give him a son, and you’ll no longer be the favored one in the Rainsworth family.”
Felix immediately became flustered, flinging his putty across the room. “That’s nonsense! Mom said there’s something wrong with my uncle. He can’t have children!”
Jonathan, sensing an opening, teased further. “What if your mom lied to you?”
Felix didn’t have a response. After a moment, he leaned in closer, lowering his voice. “I’m telling you something secret… you can’t tell anyone else. My uncle never even liked Ms. Ross.”
Jonathan’s expression shifted. He now seemed fully engaged. “Who told you that?”
