Chapter 19 She Is Pregnant.
Zachary stood frozen, his mind swirling with the shocking revelation. Cecilia, pregnant? How had this happened? The thought that she had been missing for three days, only to appear in the hospital with Calvin by her side, felt like a mystery waiting to be unraveled. His mind raced as he pieced together the fragments of information: sleeping pills, a suicide attempt, and now a pregnancy. The more he thought about it, the more questions arose. Why had she kept this from Nathaniel? And why had Calvin been there to take care of her?
He couldn’t ignore the fact that he had underestimated Cecilia. The once timid, fragile woman who had seemed easy to control now appeared to be someone completely different—someone who had secrets, who had made decisions that no one, least of all Nathaniel, had seen coming. Her strength, her ability to keep such a monumental secret, was beginning to show itself, and Zachary wasn’t sure if that was something he could take lightly.
But what troubled him more was Nathaniel. The divorce had been in the works. They had planned everything, arranged the paperwork, and were ready to go. And yet, this new development turned everything upside down. If Nathaniel found out about the child, it could change everything. Zachary knew Nathaniel well, and he could only imagine how he would react to this sudden twist of fate. Would he feel betrayed by Cecilia? Or, would he be forced to face emotions he had buried deep for so long?
The timing couldn’t have been worse. Nathaniel’s life was on the brink of collapse as it was, and this pregnancy could either destroy or save him. Zachary had no way of knowing what his next move should be. If he told Nathaniel, would he be stepping into a volatile situation, one where he couldn’t predict the outcome? On the other hand, if he kept the secret, he risked Nathaniel finding out later, with much more at stake. It was a difficult decision, and one that Zachary wasn’t sure he was ready to make.
Then, there was Calvin. The man who had been there for Cecilia during her darkest hour, the one who had rushed her to the hospital. Zachary didn’t trust him—there was something about Calvin that unsettled him, something beneath the surface that didn’t sit right. But what role did he play in all of this? Was he just a protector, or was he more involved than Zachary realized?
As he stood there, holding the file containing Cecilia’s medical records, a sense of unease settled over him. The questions were piling up, and the answers seemed further and further away. He didn’t know what the future held, but he knew that this situation, with Cecilia’s pregnancy, would be a game changer. There was no way to ignore it, no way to pretend it didn’t matter.
Zachary turned away from the file, glancing back toward the hospital corridor where Calvin and Cecilia had just left. His instincts told him to act fast, but his mind kept hesitating. He wasn’t sure if revealing the truth to Nathaniel would bring clarity or chaos. The pieces of the puzzle were scattered, and he didn’t know how to put them together yet.
He took a deep breath and left the hospital room, his mind still spinning with the weight of what he knew. There was no turning back now.
