Chapter 50 Living With Vivian
Jonathan’s face turned a deep shade of red, resembling a ripe tomato. He cleared his throat twice, lowering his voice as he said, “Mommy, I’m not a child anymore, and Ms. Kennedy is still here.” His words lightened the tension that had settled after Nathaniel’s earlier appearance, bringing back the playful energy in the room. Vivian had never seen Jonathan blush like this before, and she couldn’t resist teasing him a little. “Oh, someone’s been tapped on the butt before, haven’t they?” she said with a grin.
Jonathan quickly protested, “I have never!” This version of him, flustered and defensive, made him seem more like the child he was. Cecilia couldn’t help but watch in amusement as her son fumbled with his words. The anger she had felt earlier completely dissipated as she looked at him. Jonathan and Elliot were her treasures, and despite the challenges, she couldn’t stay upset with them.
As she thought more about the situation, her resolve began to solidify. “I can keep avoiding Nathaniel, but what about my sons? Do they have to hide forever? They’re innocent, they should be able to go wherever they want, even return to their home,” Cecilia thought. The situation that had arisen earlier only strengthened her decision to stand firm.
As they sat down for their meal, Vivian suggested having someone escort Jonathan back home, but Cecilia quickly shook her head. “Vivian, I’ve been thinking it over. Hiding isn’t the answer. I’ve decided Jonathan can stay with me. Nathaniel already knows about him and seems to have accepted that he’s your son. So, there’s no reason to worry anymore. I’ll talk to Martha and ask her to look after Elliot. Jonathan will stay with me here in Tudela. Once things settle down, we’ll go back.”
Vivian agreed with her decision. “It makes sense. Martha does have a caregiver, but it’s still a lot for her to handle on her own. Having Jonathan stay here will give you some company too. And don’t worry—if Nathaniel finds out, you’ve got me and Calvin by your side.” Jonathan added, “You have me, too, Mommy. I promise I’ll protect you and Elliot.”
Cecilia smiled warmly at her son’s words, and Vivian gave her an encouraging nod. “Alright, it’s settled then.”
After they finished their meal, Vivian made plans to take Jonathan with her. “I’ll take Jonathan with me for now. He’ll stay at my place before you get pregnant. You can visit whenever you want to see him.” It was the only option that seemed right at that moment.
Before Jonathan left, Cecilia reminded him, “You must listen to Ms. Kennedy and don’t run off on your own. Understand?” Jonathan nodded eagerly, relieved that he wouldn’t be sent back. Even though he couldn’t live with his mother, being in the same city gave him a sense of peace.
At Vivian’s private mansion, Jonathan opened his suitcase. It was packed not just with clothes and toiletries, but with a laptop as well. Vivian, curious, raised an eyebrow. “Jon, this suitcase must weigh at least ten or twenty pounds. How did you manage to carry it onto the plane? And a laptop? Are you already playing games?”
Jonathan, with a mischievous grin, replied, “It’s a secret.” He quickly dug through his things, pulling out clothes and heading toward the bathroom for a shower.
Vivian, amused by his coyness, chased after him. “Hey, sly kid, want me to help you wash up?” she called out playfully.
Jonathan froze, a look of horror on his face at her offer. His only mistake, in his mind, was deciding to live with Vivian.
As soon as he reached the bathroom, he stepped on a small stool and quickly locked the door behind him, hoping Vivian wouldn’t barge in. Vivian chuckled as she stood outside. “Oh, look at you, getting all shy. Trust me, I’ve seen all kinds of men, you’re nothing special to me.”
