Chapter 79: The Rainsworth Manor
Cecille couldn’t help but feel touched. “Thank you, Vivian.”
“There’s no need for formalities between us,” Vivian replied with a smile. “Remember how I asked you to stand in for me at that blind date last time? Well, I could use your help again.” She didn’t enjoy events like that at all.
Before she had the chance to travel abroad, Roland would drag her to numerous social gatherings, all aimed at finding a wealthier, more powerful son-in-law than her own family. It had been exhausting.
“Okay,” Cecille agreed, already steeling herself for the task.
Vivian laughed, clearly excited. “This time, you have to win over Nathaniel, the jerk, and get his baby!”
Cecille smirked. “Right.” She couldn’t help but feel a little regretful. She had almost succeeded last time. This time, she’d be more careful in planning.
As an idea struck her, she turned to Vivian. “Do you think Stella will attend Old Mr. Rainsworth’s birthday banquet?”
Vivian didn’t hesitate. “Of course. How could she possibly miss the chance to curry favor with the Rainsworth family and secure her place in their household?”
A wicked smile tugged at Cecille’s lips. “This time, we can also present Stella with a very grand gift.”
The next day, Jonathan woke up early, his mind already racing with plans. Old Mr. Rainsworth’s birthday celebration was set for ten o’clock in the morning, but Jonathan had woken up much earlier, fearing that Cecille might discover that Felix had invited him.
Cecille had prepared a gift box for him to take to his “friend,” completely unaware that his “friend” was Felix, the eldest grandson of the Rainsworth family. Jonathan didn’t dare tell her. He knew she’d forbid him from going to Rainsworth Manor if she found out. So, he casually used the names of other classmates to cover up.
Jonathan and Felix had arranged to meet at the entrance of the kindergarten. Not long after, a Lincoln limousine pulled up in front of Jonathan, making him feel small and insignificant in comparison.
The car door swung open, and Felix stepped out with an air of pride, grinning. “Your family doesn’t own a car like this, do you?”
Jonathan, ever the quick-witted one, smiled. “Yeah, the most expensive car in our household is probably worth a few million.”
Felix slid into the car, pulling Jonathan in beside him. “Follow me from now on. Once you’ve grown up, I’ll gift you one.”
Jonathan raised an eyebrow but didn’t back down. “Let’s talk about it when you’re actually in a position to make decisions.”
Felix’s face darkened, a scowl forming on his lips. “What do you mean by that? Are you saying I don’t make the decisions at home? You’ll understand my status once you see my place later.”
Jonathan had already realized how significant Felix was to the Rainsworth family. Every day, luxury cars picked him up and dropped him off, often accompanied by at least a dozen bodyguards. The Rainsworth family elders even took turns picking him up and driving him home whenever they had a chance.
During the ride, Felix couldn’t stop bragging about his extravagant lifestyle—his private jet, his personal amusement park, and other toys. Jonathan wasn’t impressed. He didn’t envy Felix’s wealth. He knew he would have everything he wanted once he was older.
Eventually, they arrived at Rainsworth Manor. At that moment, no guests had yet arrived.
The manor itself was a masterpiece of wealth and grandeur. Spanning over twenty thousand square meters—roughly the size of three soccer fields—it looked endless. Even a full day wouldn’t be enough to explore the vast grounds.
The architecture of the manor had an ancient, castle-like style. Rumor had it that one single beam from the structure could purchase several Rolls-Royces.
Jonathan followed Felix out of the car, and a housekeeper was there to greet them immediately. As Jonathan took in the opulence of the place, he couldn’t help but feel a mixture of awe and disgust toward his so-called “scumbag” father.
From what Jonathan had learned, the Rainsworth family had once been a prominent but not extraordinarily powerful clan. It was Nathaniel who had gradually expanded the family’s empire after taking over. And now, Jonathan stood in the heart of it.
Felix turned to him with a smug grin, almost as if reading his thoughts. “Isn’t my house grand and beautiful? Let me tell you, all this will be mine in the future!”
