Chapter 11
In the quiet of the night, Lucian quietly entered Estella’s room at the Farwell residence. He gently tucked her into bed, his eyes lingering on her peaceful, sleeping face. For a moment, he simply watched her, his heart tightening with an emotion he couldn’t quite place. Finally, with a soft sigh, he turned and left the room.
Just as he stepped into the hallway, Cayden, his ever-faithful assistant, approached him. “Mr. Farwell, I stopped by the restaurant to look into the matter, but unfortunately, I didn’t find anything. The surveillance cameras were broken.”
Lucian’s brow furrowed. “Broken? How conveniently timed.”
Cayden hesitated before speaking again. “It could be a coincidence, sir. After all, we haven’t heard from Mrs. Farwell—Ms. Jarvis—since she left years ago. It’s unlikely she would have suddenly shown up in Horington.”
Lucian’s expression darkened at the mention of Roxanne’s name. Cayden caught the shift in his boss’s mood and quickly lowered his gaze, not daring to say anything further.
Lucian responded tersely, his voice laced with ambiguity. “I understand.” With that, he turned and headed toward his room, his thoughts racing.
The following morning, after a quick breakfast, Roxanne took Archie and Benny to the premium kindergarten Madilyn had recommended.
As always, Roxanne was efficient. She had spent the previous night organizing everything so she could immediately enroll her boys in the school. She wasn’t one to delay important matters.
The kindergarten, known for its exclusivity, had high entry requirements. Only children from wealthy and prominent families were accepted, and the screening process for parents was just as rigorous.
When Roxanne arrived at the headmaster’s office, she was asked to provide detailed documentation about her occupation and net worth. Thankfully, she had prepared everything in advance, as Madilyn had warned her.
Although Roxanne was not a CEO or director, her success in the medical field had been substantial, and her wealth exceeded the kindergarten’s minimum requirements. She presented the necessary paperwork without hesitation.
After reviewing her documents, the head of the kindergarten smiled politely. “Ms. Jarvis, everything appears to be in order. I’ll begin the enrollment process right away. Please sign here.”
Roxanne signed the documents, her movements efficient and confident.
Once the paperwork was completed, the headmaster summoned a teacher to guide the boys to their new classroom. The teacher greeted them warmly and led them away.
Archie and Benny waved at their mother, their faces filled with curiosity, before following the teacher down the hallway. Roxanne stood there for a moment, watching them disappear around the corner. She didn’t have the same concerns as other parents. Her boys had spent years at the research institute, getting used to new environments and interactions.
She knew they would adapt quickly.
Roxanne smiled to herself, thinking that, if anything, her bigger concern was that her boys might end up being too clever for the other children. After all, they had managed to outwit many of the top researchers at the institute in the past.
Meanwhile, Benny and Archie were busy exploring the new environment. Their teacher guided them into their classroom, where she introduced them to the other children.
“Everyone,” the teacher said with a smile, “these are our new classmates. Let’s give them a warm welcome!”
The other children stared at Archie and Benny with a mixture of curiosity and excitement. The two boys, with their charming personalities and infectious smiles, immediately won them over. After a few moments of introductions, the room burst into applause.
Benny, always the more observant of the two, scanned the room. His gaze suddenly froze, and he tugged at the hem of Archie’s shirt. “Archie, look! Isn’t that our paternal sister? She’s in the same class as us!”
Archie’s eyes followed Benny’s pointing finger, and his face lit up with recognition.
It seemed that, despite all the twists and turns of their lives, the two boys were about to embark on yet another unexpected journey—this time with someone who was more connected to them than they had ever imagined.
