Chapter 85
The following morning, Aubree was enjoying her breakfast when her bodyguard called.
“Ms. Pearson, I’ve looked into it. Last night, Mr. Farwell took Ms. Estella to a woman named Jarvis. They stayed at her place for almost three hours before leaving—”
Before the bodyguard could finish his sentence, there was a sharp beep as the call was disconnected. Aubree’s face darkened instantly. She knew exactly who that woman was—Roxanne Jarvis.
The more she imagined Lucian and Roxanne spending time together, the more her face twisted with fury. What could they have been doing for three hours? And they even had Estella with them?
A fresh wave of anger surged within Aubree as she stood up, her fist tightening around the phone. She flung it away, watching it shatter on the floor, her eyes burning with uncontrolled rage.
Samuel, who had been sitting across from her, glanced up at the noise. He was surprised to see his daughter standing over the broken phone, her expression livid.
“What’s going on?” Samuel asked sharply, setting down his cutlery.
Aubree met his gaze, gritting her teeth. “Roxanne Jarvis is back. Lucian’s been avoiding me lately, and I think he’s planning to reconcile with her!” Her voice took on a pitiful tone toward the end, as though seeking sympathy.
Samuel’s expression darkened. “Do Elias and Sonya know about this?”
He was well aware that Roxanne had left years ago, without a word, leaving only a divorce agreement behind. Elias and Sonya had never forgiven her for it. If they found out she had returned to their son’s life, it would undoubtedly stir up trouble.
Aubree’s brow twitched at her father’s words. A thought flashed through her mind, and she quickly voiced it. “I’ll find a way to tell the Farwells about her return.”
Samuel nodded approvingly. “They’re sure to be unhappy about it. You’re doing the right thing.”
Aubree returned to her seat slowly, her mind racing.
Seeing that his daughter had calmed down a little, Samuel frowned. “But don’t get too worked up over it. This woman has just returned. We don’t know what Lucian’s intentions are. You need to keep your cool for now. Besides, Elias and Sonya know how loyal you’ve been to their son. No matter what happens, they’ll be on your side. You don’t have to fear anything.”
Aubree’s mood lifted at her father’s words. She gave a small nod. “I understand. I’ll stay composed.”
Meanwhile, Roxanne had finished her breakfast and was sending Archie and Benny off to kindergarten.
When the teacher, Pippa Ward, saw the three of them, she greeted them with a concerned expression. “How are Archie and Benny? Are they feeling better?”
Roxanne smiled and nodded. “Yes, they’re feeling much better. Thank you for your concern.”
The two boys looked up at Pippa and greeted her politely, “Good morning, Ms. Ward!”
Naturally, Pippa’s heart swelled with affection at how well-behaved and sensible the children were.
As they chatted, the sound of a car door opening and closing interrupted the moment.
Everyone turned toward the sound, only to see a Bentley parked on the street. Lucian stepped out of the car and scooped Estella into his arms.
Though he intended to carry her to the entrance, Estella squirmed the moment she spotted Roxanne and her sons.
Lucian paused, understanding immediately. He set his daughter down on the ground as she wished. But just as he reached out to take Estella’s hand, he was taken aback to see her already running toward the others.
For a moment, Lucian stood frozen, surprised. His gaze shifted toward the group, where Roxanne and the boys were all smiling fondly at Estella. The sight made him pause even further, and before he could react, Roxanne was already walking toward the little girl.
