Chapter 69
Aubree looked up, her eyes scanning the room. Every computer screen within her line of sight displayed the same image. The sight made her blood run cold, and her body trembled with rage.
The employees, aware of her temper, tiptoed around her, not daring to make a sound. Some, curious to see her reaction, quickly averted their eyes when their gazes met her furious glare.
Aubree’s eyes swept across the room, her gaze sharp as a whip. Through gritted teeth, she named a few people and instructed Charles to dismiss them immediately. Then, with a sneer, she turned to the technical department.
“Is this how you work?” she spat. “How could the company’s system be hacked so easily? It’s been hours, and none of you have fixed it! Did I hire all of you to make a fool of the company? If you can’t solve this, then leave! Pack up and get out!”
The employees, already familiar with her fiery temper, braced themselves for her wrath. They seethed in silence, their heads bowed as they endured the scolding.
The manager of the technical department, summoning what little courage he had left, stepped forward. “Ms. Pearson, this virus is incredibly powerful. It’s likely the work of a highly skilled hacker. We… we need more time to break it.”
Aubree shot him a venomous glare. “I don’t want excuses. Fix this, or you’ll be out of a job!”
The manager nodded frantically, urging his team to work faster.
Aubree’s anger reached a boiling point as she stared at the two cartoon figures on the screen. Her fists clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. How dare someone humiliate me like this? They better not get away with it, or I’ll make their life a living nightmare.
Early that morning, Roxanne was about to send Archie and Benny to school when she saw Benny clutching his stomach as he walked out of his room.
Worried, she quickly stepped forward. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?”
Benny’s face was twisted in pain as he whimpered, “Mommy, my stomach hurts. Can I stay home today?”
Before she could respond, Archie walked out of his room, his expression mirroring his brother’s. “Mommy, my stomach’s hurting too.”
Roxanne frowned, concerned. “Maybe you both ate something bad last night. You should rest today. I’ll call your teacher.”
Archie and Benny nodded, their faces full of feigned distress.
Roxanne, still not suspecting anything, left to make the call. Afterward, she brought them some warm water and indigestion pills.
The boys obeyed without hesitation, their earlier “sickness” now forgotten as they eagerly anticipated their next move.
Roxanne, deciding to stay home to look after them, settled in the study to work. But once she left the room, the boys’ demeanor changed in an instant. Their tired expressions melted away, replaced by gleaming excitement.
Benny hurried to switch on his laptop, grinning as he saw that his virus hadn’t been cracked yet.
“Looks like the evil woman must be at the office by now,” Archie said, glancing at the clock, his tone full of certainty.
Benny snorted, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “She must’ve seen my little animation by now. I bet she’s fuming.”
The thought of Aubree’s anger filled them both with a sense of triumph. That evil woman’s frustration is just too sweet, they thought, as they reveled in their playful scheme.
