Chapter 70
“She’s got to pay for bullying Mommy,” Archie muttered coldly, his eyes narrowed with resolve.
Benny nodded firmly, his fingers already dancing across the keyboard. “I’m going to make it harder for them to crack this. If they can’t handle something this simple, it’s time to turn up the heat.”
Archie, still a little confused, asked, “What are you doing?”
Benny’s excitement was evident as he explained, “Their technical team is so weak. My virus is child’s play, yet they can’t fix it. So, I’ll make it harder and make that evil woman even angrier.”
Archie’s eyes gleamed with mischief. “It’d be best if they can’t crack it at all. More people will laugh at her, and maybe then, she’ll think twice before messing with Mommy again.”
The boys were engrossed in their work when they suddenly heard footsteps approaching the door.
Archie, ever alert, nudged Benny urgently. Benny quickly wrapped up his coding and shoved the laptop toward Archie, the screen facing him as he scrambled to appear innocent.
When Roxanne entered the room, she found Archie clutching the laptop while Benny lay on the bed, staring at the screen with wide, curious eyes.
“Aren’t you two feeling unwell?” Roxanne asked, her brows furrowing with concern. “Why aren’t you resting?”
Archie’s and Benny’s hearts skipped a beat. Mommy’s too sharp. If she checks on us, she’ll figure it all out.
Roxanne sat beside them, reaching for Benny’s hand. But Benny recoiled instinctively, pulling his wrist back.
Roxanne’s confusion deepened. “What’s wrong?” she asked softly.
Benny glanced nervously at Archie for help. Archie, calm as ever, extended his hand to Roxanne and said with a reassuring smile, “I’m feeling much better after the medicine, but if you’re still worried, you can check on us.”
Roxanne’s attention shifted to him. She gently checked Archie, relieved to see he was perfectly fine. But when her gaze turned to Benny, she paused, remembering that he had seemed worse just a little while ago.
Benny, catching on to the situation, suddenly dashed toward Roxanne with a wide grin. “Mommy, I’m feeling much better too! The medicine you gave us is amazing. You’re the best doctor in the world! Archie and I really admire you, and we love you the most!”
Amused by his sudden change in behavior, Roxanne smiled and examined him. After confirming that both of her boys were fine, she let out a relieved sigh—but something still felt off.
Before she could dwell on it, Benny said, his face suddenly serious, “But I’m still not feeling well.”
Roxanne’s heart tightened with concern as she looked at him closely. “What’s wrong, Benny?”
Benny’s expression softened as he added sweetly, “I need your hug to feel better.”
Before Roxanne could respond, Benny leaped into her arms, his small, soft body pressing against her.
Roxanne smiled, the tension lifting from her shoulders as she hugged him back. Glancing at the laptop, she asked, “Archie, what are you doing there?”
Archie, seizing the moment while she was distracted, quickly changed the browser page. He met Roxanne’s gaze with a casual, innocent look. “I’m just checking the stock market. I invested in some foreign companies and made a little money.”
Benny beamed, clearly proud of his brother. “Archie made over fifty million!”
Roxanne’s jaw dropped in disbelief. “Fifty million? Archie, that’s incredible!”
Benny’s eyes sparkled as he teased, “What about me? What about me?”
Roxanne chuckled and kissed both of them on their foreheads. “Both of you are amazing. I’m so proud of you two. I love you both so much.”
The boys grinned widely, basking in her praise.
