Chapter 71
The employees at Pearson Group had been working relentlessly to fix the virus, but it seemed like no progress had been made. Aubree lingered in the technical department, her patience wearing thin as she spat insults at anyone who dared to approach her.
“Mr. Pearson,” Charles’s voice suddenly cut through the tension.
Aubree quickly composed herself, her posture stiffening as she lowered her eyes. “Dad, what are you doing here?” she greeted, her voice slightly strained.
Samuel Pearson entered, his square face set in a serious expression. “What’s going on? Are you still not done with the virus?”
The technical department manager, drenched in cold sweat from the morning’s scolding, bowed apologetically. “Mr. Pearson, we’ve tried everything, but this virus is too sophisticated. Every time we’re close to cracking it, another obstacle appears. It’s like it’s constantly evolving…”
“So, you’re saying you can’t solve it?” Samuel’s frown deepened, his voice laced with frustration.
The manager’s shoulders slumped. “Yes, Mr. Pearson. We—”
“Idiots!” Samuel erupted, his anger echoing through the room. He turned sharply to his daughter. “If this is beyond your team, then we’ll have to contact Lucian’s company. They might be able to help.”
Aubree’s face twisted in disdain. “No way!” she shot back immediately, her eyes narrowing at the image on the screen.
“If we get someone from Farwell Group to fix this, Lucian will surely see it. I’ll be completely humiliated.”
Samuel glared at her. “If you’re worried about humiliation, why did you mess with people whose background you didn’t even check? Now, they’re retaliating. Do you understand how much this company could lose if this problem isn’t solved right now? What’s more important: your reputation or the future of this company?”
Aubree bit her lip, clearly torn, but in the end, she relented.
Samuel, still annoyed, shot her one last glare before dialing Lucian’s number. “Send someone over to solve this,” he ordered.
Lucian, on the other end of the line, merely nodded and instructed Cayden to choose an employee from the technical department to handle the situation. The employee sent by Lucian arrived at Pearson Group shortly after.
It didn’t take long before it became clear that Farwell Group’s technician was far more skilled than the entire team at Pearson Group. While Pearson’s employees had struggled with the virus all morning, Lucian’s employee took one look at the problem and immediately began typing away at the keyboard.
Within moments, it was clear that the virus was almost completely neutralized, a feat that left Pearson’s employees in stunned silence. The virus was nearly cracked in record time.
Meanwhile, at home, Roxanne had made sure that Archie and Benny were fine before heading back to her study. Archie, his attention focused on the laptop screen, continued monitoring the stock market. As he browsed through the numbers, a series of codes suddenly appeared on the screen.
“Benny, look!” Archie called out, excitement creeping into his voice.
Benny’s eyes brightened when he saw the codes flashing across the screen. It was the program he had designed. When the core sequence of the virus was cracked, a window like this would pop up.
I thought this virus wouldn’t be cracked today. Whoever’s on the other side is clearly a pro, Benny thought, his excitement growing. He grabbed the laptop from Archie and began typing furiously, ready to continue the battle.
Thirty minutes later, Benny finally stopped. His fingers hovered over the keys as a satisfied grin spread across his face.
“What is it?” Archie asked, watching him curiously.
Benny’s grin only widened. “It’s cracked.”
Archie’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Why are you still smiling?”
Benny shrugged nonchalantly, though his excitement was barely contained. “That person is really good. Our little battle was actually fun. But I’m sure he’s not from Pearson Group—he’s way better than those guys.”
