Chapter 86
It was a rare sight as Estella ran toward the entrance of the school, waving enthusiastically at Roxanne and the boys without saying a word.
Seeing how excited the little girl was and how careless she was being about road safety, Roxanne hurried over to hold her hand. As she did, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of helplessness when she noticed Lucian calmly approaching them from behind.
Estella grinned widely, her face lighting up as she clung to Roxanne’s hand. Once they stopped walking, she even threw her arms around Roxanne’s leg in an affectionate hug.
Neither Archie nor Benny seemed jealous. Instead, they both greeted Estella with big, friendly smiles.
When Lucian finally caught up and stood beside them, Benny, without hesitation, tugged at his father’s suit sleeve. Lucian, puzzled, lowered his head to look at the boy.
“Good morning, Mr. Farwell!” Benny greeted him, flashing an innocent grin.
Lucian raised an eyebrow in slight surprise but his expression softened quickly. “Good morning to you, too.”
At hearing his father’s reply, Benny’s smile brightened even more.
Archie, however, simply pursed his lips and gave a brief nod of acknowledgment.
Lucian mirrored his son’s gesture with a quiet nod in return.
Pippa, who had been watching the interaction with an approving smile, mused aloud, “Wow, Ms. Jarvis, I have to say, you must be on great terms with Estella. It’s quite rare, you know? I’ve taught her for so long, and she’s never been this clingy with me.”
Roxanne glanced down at Estella, still holding onto her leg, and chuckled softly.
Despite not wanting to leave Roxanne’s side, Estella remained content, as there weren’t many children arriving at the kindergarten yet. So, Roxanne and the kids stayed by the door, chatting with Pippa.
Lucian had taken care of the issue with the school the night before, ensuring that Archie and Benny would not be expelled. Pippa, thankfully, never brought up how close the twins had come to being kicked out, and Roxanne remained unaware of the full details.
After a while, as the three kids held hands and walked into the school together, Roxanne turned to leave. However, just as she did, her heart skipped a beat when she inadvertently caught Lucian’s gaze.
She had been so absorbed in her conversation with Pippa that she had almost forgotten Lucian was standing quietly behind her.
If there’s nothing else, I’ll be off to work, Mr. Farwell, Roxanne said quickly, already turning to walk away before Lucian had a chance to respond.
Lucian watched her retreating figure, his gaze darkening.
The earlier sight of Roxanne and the kids chatting with Pippa had left him momentarily stunned. It felt as though they were a family, and the thought lingered with him longer than he cared to admit.
It wasn’t until Roxanne’s car had driven off that Lucian finally shook himself out of the daze and walked toward his Bentley.
After leaving the kindergarten, Roxanne headed straight to the research institute.
Thanks to the Queen family’s supply of herbs, her research, which had been at a standstill, was now progressing smoothly again.
She kept herself occupied throughout the morning, and by the time Jonathan called, it was already noon.
“Dr. Jarvis, what time will you be dropping by this afternoon? I’ll be waiting for you at home.”
The mention of her appointment with Alfred made Roxanne pause. Oh no, I’ve been so caught up in work that I almost forgot about my appointment with him this afternoon.
Snapping herself out of her thoughts, she quickly glanced at the remaining work on her desk and gave Jonathan a time.
Despite her busy schedule, she made it a point to arrive earlier than planned for her appointment.
The Queens’ butler, now well aware of how much Roxanne’s treatment had improved Alfred’s health, greeted her with the utmost respect. His attitude had completely shifted from the previous indifference to genuine gratitude.
However, as Roxanne entered the house, her eyes immediately narrowed at the figure sitting on the couch.
“We meet again, Ms. Jarvis,” Aubree said, her voice laced with a forced sweetness. Her smile didn’t reach her eyes, and the cold glint in them was unmistakable.
