Since she crossed that line, Justin’s patience had worn thin.
His indifference toward her seemed colder than ever.
Rosalind had expected him to be moved by her tears and desperation, but all she got was his unwavering resolve.
His harsh words hit her like a slap, causing her to flinch inwardly.
“Your brother has made his bed.
He should lie in it,” Justin continued, his voice calm but cutting.
“Your family’s problems are your own.
Don’t expect me to fix them for you.
”
Rosalind’s grip on him tightened as her heart sank.
She had never imagined that Justin would be so unmoved, so detached.
In her desperation, she tried to appeal to him one last time, her voice quivering, “But Justin, we’ve been through so much together.
You promised me—don’t you remember? You said you would always be there for me.
”
Justin’s eyes darkened, but his face remained emotionless.
“I remember.
But promises are one thing; reality is another.
Your family’s crimes won’t go unpunished.
If you really care about your brother, tell him to face the consequences.
Only then will he have a chance at redemption.
”
His words were final.
Rosalind’s eyes welled with tears, but she knew it was useless.
Justin wasn’t the same man she had once known.
He had changed, hardened by time and experience.
As she looked up at him, she realized that her hold over him had long since faded, and the man she had once relied on was now nothing more than a shadow of her past.
“Go home, Rosalind,” Justin said, his voice softer but still firm.
“There’s nothing more I can do for you.
”
Rosalind didn’t move for a moment, her heart shattering with the weight of his words.
Then, with a final, bitter glance, she slowly turned away and left, the sound of her footsteps heavy in the silence.
