Justin’s eyes narrowed as he watched Anna by the railing, her back to him as she closed her eyes and basked in the evening breeze.
The sight of her, so carefree and graceful, ignited a fire of emotions inside him that he could no longer ignore.
He had always found her beauty captivating, but now, seeing her so free, so happy, it stirred something deeper in him—a yearning, a longing for something he knew he could never have again.
The scene before him felt surreal.
Anna had moved on, clearly enjoying herself, and he was left on the outside looking in.
The sting of betrayal was still fresh, but the feeling of losing her was worse.
He wanted to hate her for being with someone else, but as much as he tried, he couldn’t.
There was something about her that kept pulling him back, something that made him watch her every move.
As he stood there, hidden in the shadows, Justin’s gaze shifted toward the man who had just exited the car.
The stranger stood tall, his presence commanding, his suit impeccably tailored.
He was everything Justin wasn’t at that moment—cool, collected, and at ease.
The sight of him next to Anna made Justin’s chest tighten.
He couldn’t place it, but there was something about the way Anna looked at this man that unsettled him.
It was a look he used to get from her.
The kind of look that made him feel like he was the only one who mattered.
But now, it was directed at someone else, and it made Justin’s heart ache.
As the man spoke, his voice smooth and calm, Justin couldn’t help but listen.
“I see you’ve come to enjoy the night air, Ms.
Brown,” he said, his tone light but filled with subtle confidence.
Anna turned slightly, offering him a smile that made Justin’s heart skip a beat.
“It’s the perfect weather for it.
No distractions, just peace,” she replied, her voice warm and inviting.
She seemed at ease with this man, and Justin could feel the distance between them growing.
He stood there, torn between his anger and his yearning.
The world around him seemed to fade as he watched Anna, completely unaware of his presence.
She was happy, truly happy, and it made something inside him break.
He thought he had let go, but seeing her so carefree, so content, brought all the old feelings rushing back.
It was then that Justin realized the truth.
She wasn’t his anymore.
She had moved on, and there was nothing he could do to change that.
He could pretend to be angry, to hate her for finding someone else, but deep down, he knew he was the one who had failed.
He had let her slip away.
As he stood there, hidden in the shadows, Justin’s gaze lingered on Anna and the man by her side.
He could see the way they interacted, the comfort they shared, and it was a stark reminder of how much had changed.
He wasn’t the one she turned to anymore.
He wasn’t the one she smiled at like that.
A sharp pang of jealousy gripped him, but there was also a bitter realization—he had lost her.
For good.
She was no longer his to claim, no longer his to love.
And though the pain in his chest was almost unbearable, he knew it was time to let go.
For a moment, everything stood still.
The cool breeze, the distant hum of the city, the man by Anna’s side—it all faded away as Justin came to terms with the truth.
Anna had moved on, and so should he.
But in that moment, as he watched her laugh with someone else, he couldn’t help but wish he were the one standing next to her, enjoying the night air.
He wished he could still be the one to make her smile like that.
But it was too late.
He had missed his chance.
