Steven’s voice trembled with confusion, “Yes, but now I’m Miss…” Bella quickly tugged on his arm, sending a sharp look his way to silence him.
Steven, quick to catch on, stopped speaking immediately.
Justin sneered, his expression shifting back to a cold, indifferent mask.
“Hah! Asher even assigned his most trusted secretary to you.
He really is treating you well.
”
He forced his emotions back into control, his face turning as stony as before.
“Congratulations.
I guess you’re about to marry into a wealthy family again.
You deceived me, and now you’re deceiving Asher Thompson.
I just hope he never sees your true colors.
” Each word was like a knife, twisting deeper into Bella’s heart.
Steven noticed her unsteady breathing, her chest rising and falling with a shaky rhythm.
He could feel the slight tremor in her shoulders, and it made him even more puzzled by Justin’s words.
What is he talking about? Is he out of his mind?
Bella steadied herself, taking a deep breath to push the pain down.
She looked at Steven with a faint smile, masking the heartache.
“Let me introduce you to this man,” she said, her voice steady despite the storm inside.
“This is Mr.
Salvador, president of Salvador Corporation, and my ex-husband.
We were married for three years.
”
Steven’s face drained of color.
His body stiffened, as though struck by lightning.
Bella.
.
.
married to Justin Salvador? He had no idea.
She had disappeared for three years, hidden away with this man, all to be his wife? Why would she do that?
“But now, we’re divorced,” Bella continued, her tone colder.
“I left without taking a penny.
He has nothing to do with me now, so we’re strangers.
”
“We’re not officially divorced yet! Grandpa’s birthday…” Justin tried to protest, but Bella cut him off, her voice shaking with fury.
“That’s enough! Stop using Grandpa as an excuse!”
Tears welled up in Bella’s eyes, but she held them back, her voice cold with anger.
“You’re just using Grandpa to keep this ridiculous marriage intact, so you can humiliate me like this, aren’t you? You know how much I care about Grandpa.
”
Justin recoiled, his body tense.
It was as if Bella had struck him, her words cutting deeper than any physical wound.
Anna had never been this angry before.
She had always been the calm, forgiving one in his memory, the one who would never complain no matter what he did.
But now? Her eyes were filled with a burning rage, so intense that it was a hundred times worse than the last time she had glared at him in the hospital.
Bella’s voice rang out, full of pain and frustration.
“There’s nothing left between us! You ended our relationship when you cheated on me while we were still married! But have I ever blamed you for it? What right do you have to ignore me and neglect me while we were married, then still expect me to be a dutiful wife? Do you think I should never marry again? How can you be so selfish?”
Selfish.
Justin felt the word hit him like a physical blow.
His chest tightened, and for the first time, he realized just how twisted his feelings had become.
He had abandoned her first, but now, as he watched her with Steven, he felt like the one being left behind.
Bella continued, her voice soft but firm.
“I’ve never broken a promise.
I promised I would keep our divorce a secret until Grandpa’s birthday.
But you couldn’t handle it, and Rosalind exposed everything.
”
She smiled bitterly, the last flicker of light in her eyes extinguishing.
“Now I understand why you’re blaming me for everything.
It’s because you don’t want to blame Rosalind, right?”
Justin stood there, frozen, as if every word she said had turned him to stone.
He watched helplessly as Steven held Bella, his ex-wife, as if she was something precious he was protecting.
Justin’s face burned with humiliation, as though he had been slapped again and again.
“I will never look back,” Bella declared, her voice steady, her resolve unshaken.
Justin clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
I gave her up first, but why does it feel like I’m the one being abandoned?
His throat tightened with bitterness, and his heart felt as if it had been pierced by a thousand arrows.
