“Haha… Axel, are you trying to do the splits? Don’t overstretch your balls!” Drew burst into laughter, holding his stomach as he couldn’t help but enjoy the moment.
In the high-stress, intense environment of the special agent headquarters, Drew hadn’t laughed so freely in a long time.
Asher, standing off to the side, watched his two younger brothers joke around.
He looked like a father observing his sons play, a rare sense of nostalgia filling him as memories of his own childhood crept in.
“Speaking of this, let me show you the gift I prepared for Bella,” Drew announced, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
He pulled out a silver rectangular briefcase, his enthusiasm palpable.
When Drew opened the complicated combination lock and revealed the contents, both Asher and Axel were left speechless.
Axel let out a gasp, and Asher stood frozen, unsure of what to make of it.
“This gun is a new development from the special agent headquarters.
Half of it is bullets, and the other half is an anesthetic.
Turning the knob to the left shoots darts that make the target sleep for three full days.
Turn it to the right, and it’ll put them to sleep for a lifetime.
Oh, and this lighter? It’s a miniature grenade, small enough to carry but powerful enough to blow up a building! Oooh, and this!” Drew continued to rattle off, clearly proud of his new toys.
Despite the deadly nature of the gifts, Drew, with the enthusiasm of a child, proudly displayed each item, as if showing off a new collection.
“Bella likes to make jewelry, right? So, I had this ring custom-made for her.
Don’t you think it looks nice?” Drew grinned, offering the ring up for inspection.
Axel, curious, reached to pick it up, but Drew swiftly grabbed his wrist, stopping him.
“No, this ring shoots poisonous thorns—more poisonous than paraquat,” Drew warned, his tone serious despite his mischievous grin.
Asher, ever the observer, lowered his eyes, muttering a prayer under his breath.
“May God forgive you.
Amen.
”
Axel, still stunned, couldn’t hide his irritation.
“I’m surprised Bella hasn’t run away from you by now, considering the lethal toys you play with.
”
“You know nothing!” Drew’s eyes narrowed, his expression turning cold.
“These gifts are practical.
Especially for that blind bastard Justin.
How dare he bully my baby sister? Now, it’s just a matter of how Bella wants him to die.
”
Axel glanced at Drew, his admiration growing.
“Drew, how long are you staying at home this time?” Asher asked, his concern evident in his voice.
“Around two weeks,” Drew replied reluctantly.
“I’ve got an important mission in Meridan next month, so I’ll need to go back early to prepare.
Otherwise, I’d love to stay with Bella longer.
”
Asher nodded understandingly.
“Official duties come first.
Axel and I will take care of our baby sister, so don’t worry.
”
There was a brief pause before Asher spoke again, his voice quieter.
“Would you like to go home and see Dad? He mentioned you just a few days ago.
”
Drew scoffed, waving a hand dismissively.
“Hmph! That old man can live a few more years without seeing me.
” His voice was cool, but a flash of sadness lingered in his eyes.
Asher and Axel exchanged an awkward glance.
While Bella had slowly accepted Wyatt’s three mistresses over the years, Drew had never been able to forgive his father’s infidelity toward his mother.
It was the reason Drew had gone to military school and become a special agent, distancing himself as far as possible from everything that reminded him of home.
But over the past two years, Drew had begun to feel homesick.
He missed the days when life had been simpler, and when he could spend time with his siblings without the weight of past grudges hanging over them.
“Hey, Ax, let’s go for a hunt,” Drew said suddenly, slinging his arm around his second brother’s neck.
The two had just been at each other’s throats, but in an instant, they were as close as conjoined twins, setting aside their differences for a moment of camaraderie.
“A hunt?” Axel reacted immediately, his eyes widening.
“If you want to go, go by yourself.
Bella said we’re not allowed to mess with that jerk, Justin.
I can’t break my promise!” Axel quickly backed away, as if Drew were carrying a contagious disease.
Drew sneered, his lips curling into a sinister smile.
“Well, that’s too bad.
Guess I’ll have to go on my own.
”
