Justin felt a mix of irritation and relief.
Anna, you know exactly how to use me and play along in front of Grandpa, he thought.
Yet, when he noticed her red, swollen eyes, his anger softened, and he couldn’t bring himself to stay mad at her for long.
As they sat down for dinner, with Bella pushing Nigel’s wheelchair to the dining table, Justin followed behind, his thoughts still lingering on the earlier scene.
The table was laden with delicacies Nigel had specially prepared for Bella, but before they could fully settle in, Ian hurried in, looking troubled.
Ian leaned in to speak to Justin, but the old man, displeased with any whispers around him, interjected, “We’re all family here, so there’s no need to hide anything from each other, especially at my dining table.
”
Ian hesitated before speaking, clearly uncomfortable, “Just now, I received a call from Madam Shannon.
She heard you were dining with Old Master Nigel and didn’t want to disturb you, so she asked me to relay a message…”
Nigel scoffed, his distaste for Shannon clear.
“Hmph! At least that woman knows her place!”
Justin remained silent, waiting for Ian to continue.
Justin was caught off guard by the news, his eyes widening in shock as he dropped his fork onto the floor.
Bella’s heart sank at the sight of Justin’s flustered reaction.
It was clear that Rosalind’s emotional instability had affected him deeply.
Ian, speaking in a worried tone, relayed the message, “Ms.
Gold was making a fuss at home just now and kept calling your name.
She’s emotionally unstable, so Madam Shannon asks that you go over and have a look at her.
She fears that Ms.
Gold will do something drastic…”
Before Ian could finish his sentence, Justin was already up and rushing out of the dining hall.
Nigel slammed his hand onto the table, furious.
“You imbecile! If you dare look for Rosalind, I won’t recognize you as my grandson!” But it was too late—Justin had already disappeared from view.
Nigel sat back in frustration, his heart heavy with guilt.
“Sigh… Why am I cursed with this family? I tried so hard to turn things around, but I just can’t change Justin’s mind despite all my efforts… I’m so useless!” He beat his chest in despair, feeling guilty for his precious granddaughter-in-law.
Bella, her eyes still red from earlier, smiled gently as she patted Nigel’s back in an attempt to comfort him.
“Grandpa, don’t say that.
What you’ve done for me is enough.
Justin and I are just not fated to be together…”
Outside the villa, Justin was on the verge of getting into his car when a voice called out from behind.
“Mr.
Salvador!”
He froze and turned around, finding Anna chasing after him under the bright lights.
Her clear, reddish eyes glinted in the dark, and for some reason, a wave of guilt washed over him.
As he opened his mouth to speak, Bella beat him to it.
“Your sister slandered my hotel employee and caused the poor girl to have an epileptic seizure.
Please tell Bethany that I won’t let this slide.
She must give my employee an explanation.
”
Justin’s brows furrowed, the tension in his shoulders mounting as he realized this was the reason Bella had come after him.
His earlier anticipation instantly dissipated.
“Although Bethany is my sister, I never interfere with her personal affairs,” Justin replied coldly.
Bella, her face unreadable, responded, “So, you think that this is her personal affair, huh? I understand, then.
”
