Chapter 2
Regina was nothing like Nicole, both in appearance and academic achievement.
She had always taken pride in her family background, but now, seeing how Nicole’s background overshadowed hers, Regina couldn’t help but feel an intense wave of jealousy.
“Get in the car, Nicole,” Sean said, opening the door for her with a gentlemanly gesture, his eyes filled with warmth.
“He’s so charming.
If only I could have a brother like him—rich and so good-looking.” “I know, I’m really jealous of her,” others whispered.
Regina, hearing their admiration, felt her anger boil over.
She couldn’t hold back and shouted, “What’s there to be proud of? She’s just a bumpkin.
Does she think she can become a social elite overnight?” As Nicole was about to get in the car, she paused, her eyes narrowing.
Sean’s expression also darkened.
“What on earth are you talking about, Regina?” Ms.
Mills snapped, clearly annoyed.
Mr.
Barrett, though recognizing Regina as the daughter of a board member, was not willing to offend the Riddles.
He immediately reprimanded Ms.
Mills.
“Is this the student council president you’ve appointed?” “I…” Nicole seized the opportunity to fan the flames.
“Ms.
Mills, the behavior of student leaders reflects poorly on the school.
Next time, please choose someone with more brains, not just someone who can pay you off.” Ms.
Mills blanched, humiliated by Nicole’s accusation.
She had indeed benefited from her arrangement with Regina, who had paid to be appointed student council president.
The truth was now out, and Ms.
Mills could feel the heat of shame on her face.
Nicole wasn’t done.
She looked at Mr.
Barrett and added, “Maybe next time, choose someone who actually deserves it.” Sean’s gaze turned cold as he glanced at Mr.
Barrett.
“You know what to do, Mr.
Barrett.” Mr.
Barrett, now realizing the full weight of the situation, immediately turned on Ms.
Mills.
“Shame on you, Ms.
Mills!” He then addressed Sean, “I’ll fire her immediately, Mr.
Riddle.” Ms.
Mills stood there stunned, realizing that her connection to the student council was officially over.
Regina’s face fell, her position as president slipping away, bought with money but now lost.
“Let’s go, Nicole,” Sean said, his icy demeanor quickly melting into a warm smile directed at Nicole.
At first, Nicole had only wanted to stir the pot, to show them that she wouldn’t be pushed around, but Sean’s defense of her made her feel a little more affection for this stranger of a brother.
It felt good to have someone on her side.
“Okay,” she said, getting into the car.
Sean drove her and Mrs.
Wallace Sr.
away, leaving behind a crowd of surprised and envious onlookers.
The Rolls-Royce soon arrived at Nicole’s small house, where she lived with her grandmother.
Sean followed her inside to help her gather her belongings.
Nicole only had a few things: a notebook, her school bag, and a couple of clothes.
“Less is more.
When we get to San Joto, we’ll buy you new things,” Sean said, trying to reassure Nicole.
“I don’t like having too many things,” Nicole replied, gently holding her grandmother’s hand.
She had always preferred simplicity, avoiding unnecessary complications.
The driver, standing by the car, was in disbelief.
As the general manager of Riddle Corporation, Sean was used to people fawning over him, but Nicole had just turned down his offer to buy her new things.
The driver could only stand quietly, trying not to draw attention to himself.
But to his surprise, Sean only smiled, his affection for Nicole clear as he said, “No problem.” The driver couldn’t believe how gentle Sean was with his long-lost sister.
The attention he gave her seemed more than what even his real sister might receive.
Before getting into the car, Nicole turned to her grandmother and gently said, “Grandma, I will…
