Chapter 72
Celia mustered the courage to face Nicole.
When she saw Nicole’s indifferent expression, it reminded her that Nicole hadn’t even mentioned the bullying she’d endured.
Celia cleared her throat and said, “Nothing much.
There’s just a little misunderstanding between Nicole and me.”
Before she could continue, Jared scoffed coldly, “A little misunderstanding, and you’ve hired so many thugs to surround her?”
He thought to himself, Do I look that gullible? Celia froze, unable to speak as Jared’s words hit her like a sharp blow.
Nicole, tired of Celia’s cowardice, turned to Jared and said flatly, “Let’s go.”
Nicole didn’t need Jared to defend her—she could handle Celia and her thugs on her own, but she wasn’t interested in wasting her time or energy.
Jared understood and glanced at Celia with a half-smile.
“Don’t let me see you again,” he warned.
After all, Nicole is still my fiancée.
No one touches her without my permission.
Nicole and Jared left together, their footsteps synchronizing from a distance, walking in perfect alignment.
Celia was left frozen, as if Jared’s last words had rooted her to the spot.
She didn’t move for a long while, her eyes wide with fear.
The weight of Jared’s warning sank in—he wasn’t joking, and she knew he was someone she didn’t want to cross.
Nicole, who had been unaware of the full extent of Jared’s power, realized just how influential he was from Celia’s terrified reaction.
She couldn’t help but wonder, What brings someone like him to Royal Creek Institute?
Curious, she turned to Jared and asked, “Why are you at Royal Creek Institute?”
“Me? I’m obviously here to reminisce with Mr.
Ellison.” Jared replied casually.
Nicole fell silent, but as the mention of Mr.
Ellison crossed her mind, a sense of guilt washed over her.
This Jared wouldn’t have asked questions he shouldn’t, right?
“Did Mr.
Ellison call you today?” Jared asked, intrigued, remembering the conversation he had overheard when he entered the office.
“Yeah,” Nicole answered instinctively, then frowned.
“What does Mr.
Ellison calling me have to do with you?”
Jared chuckled.
“I’m just curious.
Mr.
Ellison…
seemed to treat you better than his own grandchild.”
Nicole rolled her eyes.
“It’s none of your business.”
Jared’s expression darkened as he watched her walk ahead.
Who is Nicole really? She had tasted coffee from his private estate, and Mr.
Ellison seemed to have a special affection for her.
Yet despite his efforts, Jared still couldn’t uncover Nicole’s true identity, and that frustrated him.
As they neared the cafeteria, Jared suddenly suggested, “Do you want to come to my café? We’re serving western food now, and everything’s free if you visit.”
Nicole stopped in her tracks, her interest piqued.
She was fond of the coffee at his café, and the idea of some western food sounded tempting.
“Sure, but it doesn’t have to be free,” Nicole replied.
The cost wasn’t an issue for her, so she wasn’t concerned about that.
“Oh?” Jared raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
His café usually attracted high-end clientele, and even wealthy students hesitated to spend.
But Nicole seemed unfazed, leading Jared to wonder if she was far wealthier than she appeared.
They arrived at the café in no time.
Max wasn’t there, so the cashier, surprised by their arrival, quickly greeted them.
“Mr.
Johnston, Miss Riddle,” he said warmly.
Nicole nodded and was about to order, but Jared extended his arm to stop her.
With a smile that carried a hint of mischief, he said, “Do you want to see what I can do?”
Nicole, looking at him with a raised eyebrow, simply nodded before turning to head toward her usual seat.
The cashier watched the interaction, baffled by the ease with which they carried themselves—especially Jared, whose power was impossible to ignore.
