Chapter 79
The next morning, Nicole woke up early for a morning run, only to find Samuel and Spencer waiting for her.
As she approached, both of them flashed knowing smiles.
Samuel spoke first, “Spencer joked last time that I couldn’t outrun you.
I’ll prove him wrong today.” Nicole smiled back, “Okay, but you’d better keep up.” Spencer grinned confidently.
Although he wasn’t a professional athlete, he had been working out regularly and felt confident that he could keep pace with Nicole.
However, within a few minutes, Spencer’s self-assurance began to falter.
Nicole surged ahead effortlessly, her pace unmatched.
Spencer turned to Samuel, his eyes wide with disbelief.
“Oh my God! How does Nicole run that fast? Are you sure this is just a morning jog? It feels like a race!” Samuel nodded with a hint of admiration.
“See? I wasn’t lying.
Nicole is just too impressive.” Spencer gritted his teeth and pushed himself to catch up, but it was clear that he was struggling to keep up with her.
By the time the three of them finished their run and returned home, half an hour had passed.
Spencer and Samuel were completely exhausted, but Nicole appeared unfazed, not a single drop of sweat on her.
The two of them couldn’t help but feel awe toward her.
After a brief stretch in the courtyard, the trio entered the living room.
At that moment, Norah came downstairs, ready to go out, and saw the three of them.
She raised an eyebrow at the sight of Nicole having brought her brothers for a run.
For a brief moment, a mocking expression crossed her face, but it was quickly replaced by a sweet smile.
“Nicole, Samuel, and Spencer are off for another morning workout? Can you even keep up?”
Both Spencer and Samuel were in excellent shape.
Norah had tried joining them in the past, but she had to quit after realizing she couldn’t keep up with their pace.
Nicole didn’t even stop to answer, simply rolling her eyes at Norah before walking past her.
Normally, Spencer would be polite and friendly toward Norah, but remembering how she had defended Raine the day before at Grandpa’s house made him uncomfortable.
He ignored her, walking past with a sour expression, head held high.
Even Samuel, usually easygoing and affable with Norah, replied curtly, “We couldn’t keep up with Nicole.”
Norah was stunned.
“How is that possible? Aren’t you a basketball player, Samuel?” she asked, clearly surprised that someone like Nicole could outrun both of her brothers.
Samuel grinned, pretending to be proud.
“We just couldn’t keep up.
Nicole is simply too OP, not just in Math Olympiad, but also in sports.” He went over to the refrigerator and grabbed a bottle of water, his body language showing that he wasn’t interested in talking further with Norah.
His admiration for Nicole was clear, and it seemed he didn’t care to engage with her.
Norah, taken aback, had never been treated so coldly before.
Her anger bubbled up, and for a moment, she wanted to throw her handbag at them in frustration.
But when she saw the maids watching, she quickly forced a smile, trying to maintain her composure.
“Yes, Nicole really is something,” she said with a forced gentleness, trying to mask her growing frustration.
Despite her words, the more Norah thought about the events from the previous night, the angrier she became.
She couldn’t understand how Nicole had turned her zero scores around so effortlessly, stealing the spotlight once again.
Now, even Samuel and Spencer were paying more attention to Nicole than to her.
They had become like her personal attendants, following her around wherever she went.
It infuriated Norah that Nicole, whom she viewed as nothing more than a hillbilly, was now the center of attention.
She had tried so many times to sabotage Nicole, only for the girl to slip away and shine even brighter.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, losing control of her temper.
In a fit of rage, she began throwing things around her room, smashing them in frustration.
Luckily, her room was covered with thick carpeting, muffling the noise and preventing anyone from coming to investigate.
But Norah’s anger continued to grow, and she could feel herself spiraling.
