Chapter 85
After Nicole spoke, she turned and led the way to the cafeteria.
June stood frozen for a moment, surprised.
She had expected Nicole to opt for a more luxurious place like The Grove, and she had already mentally prepared to scrape together money for the meal, worried it wouldn’t be enough.
So when Nicole suggested the cafeteria, she was taken aback.
June couldn’t help but smile, realizing that Nicole wasn’t as aloof and out of reach as she had thought.
Despite her cold demeanor, Nicole had shown kindness when she helped Lulu, and that softened June’s perception of her.
The more she got to know Nicole, the more she realized how wrong her initial assumptions were.
With a smile spreading across her face, June quickened her pace to walk beside Nicole.
Lulu, noticing the shift in June’s attitude, called out from behind, “Nicole, June, I’m going back to rest.
But bring me some food, okay?” Nicole waved in acknowledgment.
Though it was the weekend, the cafeteria was surprisingly crowded.
Once they found a table, June eagerly volunteered to order food, asking Nicole to stay and guard the table.
Nicole agreed with a nod.
It was much safer for her to look after the table, as no one dared to get close to her with Austin’s reputation hanging over her.
As Nicole watched June head toward the food line, someone suddenly stopped in front of her.
Looking up, she saw Raine standing there, an unmistakable smirk on her face.
“Why are you eating in a place where only inferior people would dine?” Raine taunted.
Nicole raised an eyebrow, unbothered.
“So why are you here, too?” she shot back.
Raine had been popping up now and then, pestering Nicole with her odd, sarcastic remarks.
Nicole was tired of pretending to be nice.
“I’m only here looking for you, not that I want to eat here,” Raine responded, a look of disdain on her face.
She glared at Nicole, then leaned against the seat Nicole had saved for June, tossing June’s bag carelessly aside.
“I’m here to warn you.
Don’t get carried away just because you’re good at Math Olympiad.
Stop shamelessly seducing Gary, and don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Even if you’re good at Math Olympiad, the Riddle family won’t accept someone like you—who always ranks last in every other test.”
Raine seemed to think she had Nicole all figured out.
“Nicole may have won the Math Olympiad, but that’s probably the only thing she’s good at.
Once the monthly exams come, everyone will see how useless she is at everything else.
I can still get rid of her from the Riddle family,” Raine thought to herself, clearly believing that her plan was foolproof.
But Nicole had finally had enough.
Watching Raine carelessly throw June’s bag on the ground, she snapped, “Pick it up!”
Raine was stunned by Nicole’s response.
She had warned Nicole so many times, yet here she was, commanding her to pick up a mere $50 bag.
Raine couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“Why should I listen to you?” she scoffed, her anger bubbling up.
