bring trouble today.
“Nicole, are you sure you don’t want to avoid him? He’s going to make a scene, and Ms.
Emerson won’t let you off easily either.”
Nicole glanced up at Lulu with a faint, knowing smile.
“I’m not running from anyone, Lulu.
Let him come.”
Lulu hesitated, unsure if she should press further, but seeing Nicole’s unshaken confidence, she decided to leave it.
She turned toward her seat just as the door to the classroom opened.
Austin walked in, his usual smug expression plastered on his face.
His eyes immediately found Nicole, and without hesitation, he sauntered over.
“Well, if it isn’t the famous Nicole,” Austin said, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he leaned against her desk.
“I didn’t expect to see you here after your little stunt yesterday.”
Nicole didn’t look up from her book.
“You seem to be under the impression that I care about your opinion, Austin.
It’s cute, really.”
The comment stung, but Austin only smirked, his eyes narrowing.
“You think you can just embarrass me and walk away without consequences? I’m not done with you yet.”
Nicole finally looked up, her gaze icy.
“You must think very highly of yourself.
You’re not worth my time, Austin.”
The entire classroom fell silent, the tension palpable.
Austin’s face reddened with anger, but he held back, sensing that provoking Nicole further would only make things worse for him.
“Fine,” he sneered, “but don’t think this is over.
I’ll make sure you regret messing with me.”
Nicole didn’t even flinch as he stormed off, leaving a tense silence behind him.
Lulu and Bradley exchanged looks, clearly relieved that Nicole had handled the situation so effortlessly.
“That was impressive,” Bradley whispered.
“I don’t think anyone else would’ve stood up to Austin like that.”
Nicole shrugged, closing her book.
“People like him only understand strength.
If you let them walk all over you once, they’ll keep doing it.”
Lulu, still a little shaken, smiled nervously.
“You really don’t back down, do you?”
Nicole’s lips curled into a small smile.
“No point in backing down when I’m in the right.”
As the class resumed, Nicole felt a sense of calm settle over her.
The day had barely begun, but she was already prepared for whatever challenges it would bring.
The news about Carl still lingered in her mind, but she pushed it aside for now.
There would be time for that later.
For now, she had her own battles to fight.
