Chapter 3
Bloodlines were truly remarkable.
Despite not having seen Nicole for many years, Gloria immediately recognized the girl before her as her biological daughter.
Nicole, too, felt an unspoken connection, and when Gloria rushed to embrace her, she didn’t pull away.
“Oh, Nicole, I’ve finally found you,” Gloria sobbed.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you better.
I’m the one to blame for your abduction.” Nicole’s heart softened, her earlier stoic expression fading as she processed the truth—her abduction had been real.
For years, she had wondered why her family had abandoned her, questioning whether it was because she was a daughter.
But now, realizing that her family had always cared for her, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of warmth.
“Mom, let sis sit down first,” Sean kindly interrupted.
“She must be exhausted from the long journey.” Gloria nodded in agreement, still holding Nicole tightly.
“Right, I’m just so happy,” she said, but gently helped Nicole sit down.
Watching them, a slight flicker of jealousy passed through Norah’s eyes.
She quickly masked it with a smile.
“Nicole must be thirsty.
Let me get you some water.” Only then did the family remember Norah’s presence.
Seeing her thoughtful gesture, Gloria felt a wave of warmth.
“Norah is so considerate.” Norah blushed slightly.
“My sister just returned from the countryside, so I should take care of her more.” “Thanks,” Nicole replied, giving Norah a quick glance before accepting the glass.
Sean, noticing Nicole’s gaze, took the opportunity to introduce them.
“Nicole, this is Norah, the girl I mentioned on the way here.” “Ah,” Nicole responded, acknowledging her with a brief nod.
Sean continued, explaining how Gloria and Daniel had stopped looking for Nicole after mistakenly identifying Norah as their daughter, due to a birthmark behind her ear.
It was only recently that the police informed them of a DNA match, revealing the mix-up.
Though they had made the error, Gloria and Daniel couldn’t bear to send Norah away after all these years.
Instead, they promised to help her find her real family while allowing her to stay.
This meant they would now all share the same roof.
“Nice to meet you, Nicole,” Norah said, extending her hand with a friendly smile.
Nicole, who had always been cold and reserved, wasn’t yet at ease with the reunion, much less with strangers.
She simply nodded.
“Nice to meet you.” Norah’s hand remained outstretched, and she looked at Gloria and Daniel with a hurt expression, as if she had been rejected.
Sean noticed and frowned.
“Nicole is just introverted.
Please don’t take it personally.” Norah bit her lip, her face thoughtful.
“I understand.
I’ve been living with her identity for so long.
I know she has every right to feel upset with me.
It’s okay, Sean.” Her words drew everyone’s attention.
“No, Norah, please don’t overthink it,” Gloria said, her heart aching for Norah.
Even though Norah wasn’t her biological daughter, she had raised her and loved her deeply.
Nicole couldn’t help but scoff at the scene.
“You look hurt and assume I hate you over a simple greeting.
If it weren’t for my parents and brothers, they might’ve thought I bullied you.” The room fell into an awkward silence.
Sean, initially frowning at Norah’s words, now relaxed and looked at his new sister with a hint of admiration.
Daniel, too, seemed to understand, glancing at Norah and saying, “Nicole’s just back, don’t be too sensitive.” Norah bit her lip again, looking at Nicole with an unreadable expression.
At first, she had thought…
