Chapter 52
Wayne’s teasing stopped immediately when he saw Gary’s gaze shift toward him.
Jack, still confused, glanced between the two before the bell rang, signaling the start of class.
Ms.
Emerson entered the room, preparing to begin the lesson.
Jack scratched his head, trying to focus, but his gaze kept drifting toward Nicole.
‘She has a wasp waist,’ he thought, momentarily distracted by her figure.
BANG!
Suddenly, Jack found himself flat on the floor, his chair knocked over as he rubbed his rear end, completely bewildered.
The class turned to look as Gary slowly retracted his leg, feigning innocence.
“What are you doing, Gary?” Jack groaned, still rubbing his backside.
Gary responded calmly, without a hint of guilt, “Oh, my foot slipped this time.” Ms.
Emerson eyed the two boys suspiciously from the podium, but Jack, now embarrassed, quickly righted his chair and returned to his seat.
Ms.
Emerson continued the lesson as if nothing had happened.
Jack, now wary, decided not to glance at Nicole again.
Instead, he focused intently on the hem of Ms.
Emerson’s skirt, silently determined not to get kicked again.
After class, Wayne couldn’t hold back his laughter, teasing Jack for staring at Ms.
Emerson.
Jack, feeling a bit defensive, replied with a frown, “You know nothing.” His mind was set: he could no longer afford to gaze at Nicole, lest he be kicked again.
As such, he figured he might as well focus on Ms.
Emerson.
The longer he stared at her, the more peace he felt.
After school, Nicole took her time packing up her things.
Lulu, thinking Nicole was heading back to her dorm, offered to accompany her, but Nicole had other plans.
She was heading to the café instead.
The dormitory was too crowded with prying eyes, and she preferred the quieter, more private setting of the café to work on her mission.
Lulu didn’t press her further and let her go.
As Nicole walked alone on the street, she couldn’t help but notice the contemptuous glares from passersby.
Raising an eyebrow, she knew exactly why they were staring.
It had everything to do with Snow, and Nicole couldn’t be bothered to engage with their judgmental looks.
She simply continued on her way.
Once at the café, Nicole greeted the staff and took her usual seat in the corner.
It was a quiet, strategic spot, well-lit but not facing the window directly.
A thick partition separated her from the adjacent tables, but she could still observe the room and had a clear escape route in case things went south.
Nicole placed her bag on the table, took out her computer, and prepared to focus on her work.
The café was bustling with people, all lost in their own activities, which made it the perfect environment for online work.
Hackers often frequented such places to remain anonymous while engaging in their activities.
Nicole logged into her account, finding that Specter was offline, so she left a quick message letting him know she was safe before going offline.
She then logged into her new account to check on the progress of the $10-million mission she had taken on.
Everyone in the hacking community had heard of Lucifer, and this mission was infamous for being particularly risky.
Nicole was confident she was the only one bold enough to take it on.
If the other party wanted to dig deeper, they would certainly notice her backup account.
However, five minutes later, Nicole found herself staring at an empty chat box.
Her frown deepened as she realized that the person on the other end seemed more cautious and calculated than she had anticipated.
She wondered if she had made a mistake or inadvertently spooked them.
At the same time, Max sat in a meeting at Johnson Group when he received a notification on his mobile phone.
The system automatically displayed an IP address—Nicole’s location.
She had been daring enough to use a proxy account to accept jobs, and Max couldn’t help but be impressed.
This was Lucifer.
