Chapter 62
Raine couldn’t hide her smirk as she watched Mr.
Louis continue handing out the answer sheets.
She was convinced that Nicole’s score would be disappointing, especially with the mockery she had endured earlier.
Her heart raced with the anticipation of Nicole’s failure.
But when Mr.
Louis called out, “Nicole Riddle…” there was a brief, suspenseful silence.
Raine’s eyes narrowed, and she leaned forward, eager to witness the disaster.
“Nicole Riddle, 98 marks,” Mr.
Louis said with a neutral tone, handing over her paper without fanfare.
The room fell silent for a moment.
Raine blinked in disbelief.
Nicole’s score was almost perfect—just two marks shy of Gary’s.
For a second, Raine’s world seemed to tilt.
The others, too, were shocked.
They had all assumed that Nicole, who kept to herself and was the subject of so much gossip, wouldn’t excel.
But here she was, right at the top with the rest of them.
Whispers began circulating in the room, and even Gary, who had been so confident earlier, couldn’t suppress a flicker of surprise.
Nicole, however, remained unfazed.
She simply took her paper and looked at it for a moment before setting it down on the desk.
She didn’t bother with a victory smile or a boastful remark; she just went back to what she had been doing before, fiddling with her pen as if this was nothing out of the ordinary.
Raine’s face reddened with frustration.
She had thought that Nicole would stumble in front of everyone, and yet here she was, continuing to defy expectations.
It was clear now that Nicole wasn’t just lucky—she was good, and it made Raine seethe even more.
Gary, still processing his own pride and the unexpected competition, turned slightly toward Nicole.
His expression softened for a moment, but when he saw her indifferent stance, he quickly looked away.
Raine, catching the shift in his gaze, narrowed her eyes.
In her mind, this wasn’t over.
She would find another way to outshine Nicole, to put her back in her place.
She wasn’t going to let someone like Nicole take Gary’s attention away from her so easily.
But for now, Raine had to settle for the quiet simmer of her resentment.
She forced a smile and tried to keep her composure, hoping that the next competition would be the one where Nicole finally faltered.
